The Leptagrion genus is strictly associated to bromeliads in many different ecosystems in South America showing a high diversity in the Atlantic Forest. There are two species of this genus that are threatened of extinction in Brazil (The Brazilian red list and the red list of the state of Espírito Santo), but there are others that we do not have enough information to determine a clear status of conservation. The loss of the habitat is probably the main threat to the species that live in the Atlantic Forest surroundings that was reduced to 5% of its original distribution. Leptagrion acutum is probably the most threatened species of this genus. It was rediscovered in the Reserva Biológica de Córrego Grande , the only known registered area at the present time, despite of the extensive search in the region. Leptagrion andromache is a new registry in Bahia, L. dispar is a new registry for Espírito Santo and the distribution of L. capixabae e L. garbei is extended. Bromeliagrion and Leptagrion form a monophyletic group, but the low support in most of the branches does not allow a strong conclusion about most of the phylogenetic relations within this group. The actions for a conservation plan of these species in the Atlantic Forest should include an integrated management of the units of conservation of the region and an extension of fire protection that has caused severe loss of habitat in the distribution area of these species. In addition, the handling of bromeliads is a viable strategy to the preservation of Leptagrion species and may be realized by translocation of some bromeliads or cultivation by using the local plant population. The Corredor Central da Mata Atlântica has as role of great importance in the preservation of species of this genus for sheltering the biggest phylogenetic diversity, the biggest Leptagrion diversity species and most of the Leptagrion species threatened.
