The basin study object is the one of the Turvo Sujo river, located in the basin of the Doce river and it includes the districts of Viçosa, Coimbra, Cajuri, Teixeiras and Guaraciaba. An important basin for area, in terms of domestic water use, dilution of domestic and industrial effluents and use in the livestock and agriculture. The objectives of this study were: to obtain the Water Quality Index (WQI) in ten points of Turvo Sujo river, in two different times (dry and rainy period); to quantify the deoxygenation rate constant (K1) and of reaeration (K2) of the waters in the Turvo Sujo river, the jusante of the confluence points with their main tributaries, and to model the capacity of selfpurification of the Turvo Sujo river, with base in the STREETER-PHELPS model (1925). The obtained results indicated expressive improvement in the quality of the water in the periods with larger flow. During the drought period, the quality of the water stayed among "very bad" and "medium", being the point of worse quality observed to amount of the Grama stream. The variables that more interfered negatively in WQI were fecal coliform bacteria, 5-day BOD, turbidity and dissolved oxygen, characterizing the release of effluents of high organic load. The Turvo Sujo river came, predominantly, in the condition class 4, in agreement with the Resolution n. 357/2005 (CONAMA). The passages III (the jusante of the confluence with the Grama stream) and IV (the jusante of the confluence with the Cristal river), in the periods dry and rainy, they presented larger values of K1 that the passage V (the jusante of the confluence with the Santa Tereza river). The smallest values of K2 were obtained in the dry period and the largest values in the rainy period, in the passages IV and V. The modelling of the capacity of self-purification of the Turvo Sujo river starting from the STREETER-PHELPS model (1925), using the data collected in field and system of information in web, it allowed to the user to verify the impact of the effluents release in the quality of the courses of water.
