Resumo: | Three experiments ware conducted to evaluate the silage quality of elephantgrass harvested at 50 days after cuttin and submitted to wilting on sun for eight hours or to the addition of 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28% (natural base) of cocoa meal (CM). It were used PVC silos with 5.3 liters capacity, which were opened 45 days after ensilage process. In experiment I, the CM added to elephantgrass was efficient to increase the silage DM content. The addition of 7% of CM showed a DM content similar (P>.05) that found for wilted elephantgrass. Total nitrogen, ether extract, lignin, neutral detergent insoluble nitrogen and acid detergent insoluble nitrogen contents were lighter with CM in silages than silages obtained with wilted elephantgrass. The addiction of CM caused reduction in neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, cellulose, hemicellulose, ashes, total digestives nutrients (TDN), and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD). The estimated TDN to wilted treatment was greater than the other treatments with or without CM. Although the CM had provided reduction in the IVDMD, the 7 and 14% levels of inclusion resulted in highest digestibility of the silages (over 60%). Linear increase for pH and linear reduction for soluble carbohydrates on silages were observed as a result of the addition of CM (P<.05). The ammoniacal nitrogen content increased linearly; however, no statistical difference was observed in organic acids contents of silages with CM when compared to silages obtained from wilted treatment. There was a linear increase of lactic acid with the addition of CM. The wilted treatment and CM can be used as alternatives to increase DM content of silages. In the experiment II, were studied the fractions that constitute the total carbohydrates (CHO) and crude protein (CP). The wilted treatment showed CHO content similar to treatments with 14 and 21% CM. The regression analysis detected linear reduction of this fraction to treatments with addition of CM. The silages CHO fractions were influenced by CM additions, observing highest contents of A+B1 and NDFi and smallest. To all carbohydrate and protein estimated fractions, the wilted treatment showed similar values (P>.05) to the treatment without wilting. The protein fractions were influenced by CM additions, verifying reduction in contents of A and B1+B2 fractions and increasing in B3 and C fractions. In the experiment III, the DM, CP and NDF rumen degradation kinetic parameters were evaluated. To DM, the CM inclusion reduced the degradation potential, which showed highest values to wilted and no wilted treatments. The CP and NDF potential degradability suffered small variations, with mean values near 80 and 46%, respectively. Considering the 5%/h passage rate, all the treatments showed high CP effective degradability (over 55%). Although the rumen degradation estimative silages with CM showed a reduction tendency, all silages showed potential degradability to DM and CP over 65 and 75%, respectively. |

Foram utilizados silos de PVC com capacidade para 5,3 litros, que foram abertos 45 dias após o processo de ensilagem. No experimento I, a inclusão do FC no capim-elefante mostrou-se eficiente em aumentar o teor de MS da silagem. A adição de 7% de FC permitiu produção de silagem com teor de MS semelhante (P>0,05) ao do tratamento emurchecido. As silagens com FC apresentaram maiores teores de nitrogênio total, extrato etéreo, lignina, nitrogênio insolúvel em detergente neutro e nitrogênio insolúvel em detergente ácido. Por outro lado, reduções nos teores de fibra em detergente neutro, fibra em detergente ácido, celulose, hemicelulose, cinza, nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT) e digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS) foram detectadas com a adição do FC. O NDT estimado para o tratamento emurchecido foi superior ao dos demais tratamentos com e sem FC. Embora o FC tenha promovido redução da DIVMS, a inclusão dos níveis de 7 e 14% proporcionou digestibilidade das silagens acima de 60%. No tocante às variáveis inerentes às características fermentativas das silagens, o pH e os carboidratos solúveis reduziram e aumentaram, respectivamente, de forma linear (P<0,05). O teor de nitrogênio amoniacal aumentou linearmente, contudo, não se observou diferença estatística nos teores de ácidos orgânicos das silagens com FC quando comparados ao tratamento emurchecido. Ao considerar-se apenas a inclusão do FC, o mesmo provocou aumento linear no teor de ácido lático. O emurchecimento e o FC podem ser utilizados como alternativas para aumentar o teor de MS da silagem. No experimento II, foi estudado as frações que constituem os carboidratos totais (CHO) a proteína bruta (PB) das silagens. O tratamento emurchecido apresentou teor de CHO semelhante aos tratamentos com 14 e 21% de FC. De toda forma, a análise de regressão detectou redução linear desta fração para os tratamentos com FC. As frações dos CHO das silagens foram influenciadas pelas adições de FC, constatando-se maiores teores de A+B1 e FDNi e menores de B2 com a inclusão dos níveis de FC. Para todas as frações de carboidrato e de proteína estimadas, o tratamento emurchecido apresentou valores semelhantes (P>0,05) ao tratamento sem emurchecimento. As frações protéicas foram influenciadas pelas adições de FC, verificando-se redução dos teores das frações A e B1+B2 e aumentos das frações B3 e C, para os níveis crescentes de farelo. No experimento III, foram avaliados os parâmetros cinéticos da degradação ruminal da MS, PB e FDN. A inclusão do FC reduziu o potencial de degradação da MS, tendo sido observados maiores valores nos tratamentos emurchecido e não emurchecido. Por outro lado, a degradabilidade potencial da PB e da FDN sofreu pequenas variações, com os valores médios situandose próximos de 80 e 46%, respectivamente. Considerando a taxa de passagem de 5%/h, todos os tratamentos apresentaram elevada degradabilidade efetiva da PB (acima de 55%).
