Coffee, as a product of exports, is an important foreign exchange generator besides, it moves the internal trade in Brazil. It is also one of the main cultures of national agribusiness, responsible to jobs creation and income in many Brazilian states. The main coffee producing in Brazil are Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, São Paulo, Paraná, and Bahia. Minas Gerais is the most prominent region in coffee production, and it is also the major in export in addition to be the main producer of special coffee of the country. Two regions from Minas Gerais are prominent for exhibit different characteristics in relation to the coffee production system, they are: South of Minas and Cerrado . These regions together represents 66% of Minas Gerais coffee exports. The analysis of efficiency can be fundamental to planning and help the coffee farmers to make decisions in order to improve their properties management and to assist in the development of policies to make its performance better. However, the results can be modified by the omission of environmental variables in the determination of technical efficiency, because the choice of farmers inputs respond, in parts, to the environmental conditions. The environmental conditions are often not symmetrically distributed, but don t consider it can lead to overestimate technical efficiency. In that way, this study aimed to analyze the coffee planters technical efficiency in Cerrado and South of Minas Gerais and verify how climate variables (precipitation and temperature) could modify the results. For this, it was used as analytical tool a stochastic frontier production. Based on the results, we first observed a very small impact of the addition of climate variables to determine technical efficiency. However, analyzing the producer s efficiency and viewed separately each region is possible to identify some influence of environmental variables to determine the technical efficiency, still fairly modest. The number of producers in high classes decrease when it was considerate the rainfall impact. We emphasize that this result is related to the current climate scenario. As a result of climate changes that are occurring, these results may change significantly.
