Resumo: Technological advances have caused a large and fast growth in the volume and complexity of commercial transactions, which raised the level of competition. The common operation where the repetition of the processes solved problems, is no longer sufficient to meet this current demand. The undergraduate's education is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of companies, seeking other professional profile, able to solve the complex issues adding value to their customers. A transition between training and acquisition of skills and to prepare this new professional, business schools began to offer a new course called Master Business Administration (MBA), with the proposal to offer for professionals condition to meet this new demand, with the acquisition of knowledge (know-how); skills, (be able to) and attitudes (want to do). This paper studied the input of students’ motivation in the course of an MBA in finance and the perception of what was received during the course, in relation to the proposed acquisition of skills. Students were interviewed with five years or more of experience in management positions, who have completed 75% or more of the subjects offered in MBA Finance in the institution leader in this segment with the largest government agency assessment that measures this performance by offering courses in major cities of the country. The results obtained provide an agenda for future research on this important educational business to acquire skills that grows year after year.

A operação comum onde a repetição dos processos resolvia os problemas, não é mais suficiente para atender a essa atual demanda. A formação acadêmica na graduação deixou de ser suficiente para atender às necessidades das empresas, que buscavam outro perfil de profissional, capaz de resolver as questões complexas agregando valor para os seus clientes. Iniciou-se uma transição entre qualificação e aquisição de competências e, para preparar esse novo profissional, as escolas de negócios passaram a oferecer um novo curso chamado de Master Business Administration (MBA), com a proposta de oferecer ao profissional a condição de atender a essa nova demanda, com a aquisição de conhecimentos, (saber fazer); habilidades, (poder fazer) e atitudes (querer fazer). Neste trabalho foram estudadas a motivação de entrada dos alunos no curso de MBA em Finanças e a percepção do que foi recebido durante o curso, em relação à proposta de aquisição de competências. Foram entrevistados estudantes com cinco anos ou mais de experiência em cargos de gerência, que concluíram 75% ou mais das disciplinas oferecidas em MBA de Finanças, na instituição líder nesse segmento, com a maior avaliação do órgão do governo que mede esse desempenho com a oferta de cursos nas principais cidades do país.
