O carnaval, como festejo há muito tempo realizado no Brasil, deve sua grande representatividade a um intenso trabalho comunitário dos bairros de periferia de Campinas, como a Vila Castelo Branco (antiga Vila Bela), uma região vista como violenta, e, também, da cidade de Duartina, onde o carnaval é uma importante forma de lazer. A Rosa de Prata realizou, por muitos anos, atividades criativas e artísticas envolvendo as idosas das alas das Baianas e homens de mais idade. As atividades carnavalescas não são mais patrocinadas pela Prefeitura de Campinas desde 2016, porém, mesmo assim, o trabalho que antecedia o desfile continuou intenso e compreendia o aprendizado do manejo dos instrumentos musicais, os ensaios da bateria, a confecção de fantasias, além da escolha do tema do desfile e subsequente composição do samba-enredo, sem esquecer do samba no pé e das festas comunitárias, demonstrando que a comunidade campineira do samba permanecia viva e com muita importância na vida dos idosos, de modo a manter as tradições por gerações. Dito isso, o objetivo principal dessa tese é perceber como a participação dos velhos nas escolas de samba, especialmente das mulheres nesta fase da vida, contribuem para o bem-estar na velhice. Outros objetivos da investigação visam detectar benefícios educativos presentes nos ambientes das escolas de samba, principalmente no âmbito da educação não formal. Para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa foi utilizada a metodologia da História Oral, que capta as experiências através do registro de narrativas que retratam memórias pessoais. Assim, os principais autores da História Oral neste trabalho foram: Meihy, Rovai, Santhiago, Bosi e Simson. As narrativas foram obtidas por meio de entrevistas orais e, também das memórias acionadas via fotografias cedidas, que registravam trajetórias vivenciadas nas escolas de samba. A pesquisa foi realizada com dois homens e cinco mulheres, com idades entre 67 e 86 anos e as entrevistas ocorreram entre 2017 e 2020. Os depoimentos foram gravados, transcritos e organizados por temas, e foram analisados de modo a revelar relações entre eles. Consideramos o campo de educação não formal como importante quando se trata da participação dos idosos. A educação não formal ganhou notoriedade no mundo e no Brasil a partir da crise da educação formal, que salientou a atuação do terceiro setor, e, segundo Garcia (2009), a educação não formal, enquanto conceito no campo educativo. Além disso, foram realizados estudos bibliográficos em bancos de dados de artigos sobre a relação entre envelhecimento e artes a partir de 2018, que constataram a importância das artes na velhice. Há a necessidade de pesquisas mais aprofundadas envolvendo o tema, principalmente no Brasil. Os resultados demonstram que as escolas de samba são locais coletivos e prazerosos, que valorizam as tradições dos bairros periféricos e das cidades pequenas e enfatizam a importância dessa manifestação cultural. Ademais, se constata que há intencionalidade educacional no processo de preparação para os desfiles, que envolve diferentes linguagens artísticas que contribuem para a vida, a educação e o bem-estar dos envolvidosAbstract: This research considers the importance of carnival for the elderly in two Brazilian samba schools: "Rosa de Prata", from Campinas/SP, and "Unidos da Vila", from Duartina/SP. Carnival, as a celebration held for a long time in Brazil, owes its great representation to an intense community work in the outskirts of Campinas, such as Vila Castelo Branco (former Vila Bela), a region seen as violent, and also from city of Duartina, where carnival is an important form of leisure. Rosa de Prata carried out, for many years, creative and artistic activities involving elderly women from the Baianas wings and older men. Carnival activities are no longer sponsored by the Municipality of Campinas since 2016, however, the work that preceded the parade continued intense and included learning how to handle musical instruments, rehearsing the drums, making costumes, in addition to choosing the theme of the parade and subsequent composition of the samba-enredo, without forgetting the samba no pé and the community parties, demonstrating that the samba community in Campinas remained alive and with great importance in the lives of the elderly, in order to maintain traditions for generations. That said, the main objective of this thesis is to understand how the participation of the elderly in samba schools, especially women at this stage of life, contributes to well-being in old age. Other research objectives aim to detect educational benefits present in samba school environments, mainly in the context of non-formal education. For the development of the research, the methodology of Oral History was used, which captures the experiences through the registration of narratives that portray personal memories. Thus, the main authors of Oral History in this work were: Meihy, Rovai, Santhiago, Bosi and Simson. The narratives were obtained through oral interviews and also from memories activated via photographs provided, which recorded trajectories experienced in the samba schools. The research was carried out with two men and five women, aged between 67 and 86 years old, and the interviews took place between 2017 and 2020. The testimonies were recorded, transcribed and organized by themes, and were analyzed in order to reveal relationships between them. We consider the field of non-formal education as important when it comes to the participation of the elderly. Non-formal education gained notoriety in the world and in Brazil from the crisis in formal education, which highlighted the performance of the third sector, and, according to Garcia (2009), non-formal education, as a concept in the educational field. In addition, bibliographic studies were carried out in databases of articles on the relationship between aging and the arts from 2018 onwards, which found the importance of the arts in old age. There is a need for more in-depth research involving the topic, especially in Brazil. The results demonstrate that samba schools are collective and pleasant places, which value the traditions of peripheral neighborhoods and small towns and emphasize the importance of this cultural manifestation.
