In this survey, it was discussed about the influence of tourist urbanization on the spatial dynamics in coastal destinations. The main aspects of the relationship between tourism and urbanization are outlined here. Based on the premises of the possible positive and negative impacts, caused by the process of tourist urbanization, it was chosen Morro de São Paulo, a village in Cairu, located on the southern coast of Bahia. In this process, we discuss the process of industrialization in Brazil; we analyzed the tourism as a system and the relationship between tourism and space consumption; we approach the tourism models from the perspective of spatial dynamics and analyze how important is the public policy aimed at tourism and the need of planning in the process of tourism urbanization. Approaching the subject and the context of the study object, we investigated the real situation of the tourism in Bahia and specially in Morro de São Paulo. Besides, we present, according to the selected models, the life cycle of the Morro de São Paulo tourist destination and the relationship with the process of tourist urbanization. Based on the analysis done and the evidences observed in the field survey, bibliographical, and documentary researches and in the theoretical framework that guided the study on the subject, we infer that the tourist urbanization in Morro de São Paulo has caused changes both positive and negative in the spatial dynamics of that place. Throughout the dissertation, we present stories of the interviewed, for example, the local residents, public tourism agencies, representative of the local public administration, as well as local bussinesmen. Therefore, we identified that the inexistence of planning and control, associated with the lack of effective implementation of public policies, contributed to the disorderly growth of tourism in Morro de São Paulo.
