There are countless discussions on women's rights, both in media networks and in society at large. As a starting point and support of such discussions are the Maria da Penha Law (2006), the Feminicide Law (2015) and the expansion of public policies aimed at the public, that seek for a greater assistance and security. However, along with the different news, brazilian researches show the prevalence of an extreme scenario of violence against women, in which acts of violence are naturalized and seen as normal. Therefore, we will problematize the discourses in the media, more specifically in the newspaper "O Presente" from Marechal Cândido Rondon - Paraná, between 1994 and 2018. We will take the concept of violence against women as a guide of reflections. In this way, we aim to think about how the manifestations of violence against women bring at the core of the issue, close relations with categories of gender, sexuality, ethnicity and race, and how they are closely related to a sexist and patriarchal structure. With this research we intend to raise reflections and questions about the matter, and therefore, to elucidate that some debates about gender violence and domestic violence are a fundamental part for the problematization and analysis of discourses about violence against women in the newspaper, as well as if these discourses contribute or not to make blaming women, invisible, trivialize and naturalize the violence in question.
