Resumo: The search for renewable power sources remotes for more than one century, benefits and disadvantages arising from their use are subject for discussions and studies that allows its use. This study aimed to evaluate the various aspects of the introduction of biodiesel in the Brazilian energy matrix from brazilian regulations and laws, and the feasibility of using biodiesel in diesel engines, compared to the results obtained in field trials, influenced by the use of babassu biodiesel in blends ratios with diesel B S10, in the running of diesel engine on agricultural tractor, in periods of the day. The results indicated that biodiesel presents a high potential for replacing fossil fuel (Diesel), since it does not require adaptation on engine, and smoke density was reduced in the lower ambient temperature and higher relative humidity, decreasing by 51.82% compared B0 with B100, highlighting the babassu biodiesel. The addition of babassu biodiesel in diesel B S10 proved to be an efficient procedure to reduce the smoke density in agricultural tractor engine

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar os aspectos diversos sobre a introdução do biodiesel na matriz energética brasileira a partir de regulamentações e leis brasileiras e a viabilidade do uso do Biodiesel em motores ciclo diesel, comparando com os resultados obtidos nos ensaios de campo, influenciados pelo uso do biodiesel de babaçu em proporções de mistura com o diesel B S10, no funcionamento de motor ciclo diesel de trator agrícola, em períodos do dia. Os resultados indicaram que o biodiesel se apresenta com grande potencial na substituição ao combustível fóssil (Diesel), uma vez que não necessita de adaptação no motor, e a opacidade da fumaça foi reduzida no horário de menor temperatura ambiente e maior umidade relativa do ar, diminuindo em 51,82%, quando comparado B0 com B100, destacando-se o biodiesel de babaçu.
