This Master‟s thesis, entitled Educational Public Policies: an analysis about national policy of student assistance in the context of the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro - UFTM, aims to learn about the Policy of Student Assistance in the Pro-Rectory of Student and Community Issues (Pró-Reitoria de Assuntos Comunitários e Estudantis - ProACE). It aims to analyze the National Policy of Student Assistance (Política Nacional de Assistência Estudantil - PNAES, decree number 7.234, of 19/07/2010) and identify the access and permanence conditions of the students attended in the ProACE, sector of Social Work. Regarding its aims, this thesis explores the ways how the implementation of the policy of student assistance is being made and the political and social conditions which direct its effectuation. As a basis for this thesis, we used the theoretical referential of the critical social theory aiming the apprehension of the historic process of the social relations, which is reflected in the educational public policies. The methodology was based in the bibliographical, documental and field research. The main results were the knowledge of the educational public policies in the context of the neoliberal educational policies, the moment of federal universities restructuring, the need of assistance for the students‟ permanence in this IFES and, at the same time, the ignorance of the PNAES as a right of the student assistance group. This thesis hopes to contribute to a critical analysis of the implementation of educational public policies in the federal public institutions, more specifically in the UFTM and the real interests of government in regard to the policy of student assistance
