Resumo: It is understandable that it concerns the school, as a formal institution, to provide in its context practices of reading and production of texts. Such practices are important to the formation of readers and independent and efficient writers. In this sense, the main purpose of this work was to analyze the development of reading and production of texts in fourth grade in elementary school, trying to identify conceptions and pedagogical experience in teaching used in this procedure. The study took place in two public schools: one belonging to the municipal district and the other one to the state. This work was accomplished in these schools because most part of the students we work with (5th grade) come from the municipal and state schools chosen to be the place of our work. And also, because we came to the conclusion that, in general, they have difficulty in reading and producing texts. Thus, it became very important to realize how this process really happens, and also how these theoretical conceptions in the area of the Portuguese language defined by the teachers as well as the methodology used by them for reading and production of texts. The present work focuses on a qualitative research with delineation in this field of study. Two teachers that teach children in fourth grade were the subject of our work. We decided to call them teacher A and teacher B. For theoretical reason, we made use of conceptions of reading as activity of creation of sense and text as a concrete unit of meaning, taking into consideration all their productions. For data collection, we made use of specific document (The Political-Pedagogic Project of the School: the school development plan for students attending 4th grade and some activities of text production elaborated by the teachers). Besides, we also used interview with semi-structural scripts and observations in classrooms. After having all the necessary information, we went on with our analysis to find out some details which had something to do with the theoretical conceptions belonging to those teachers, which reveal the need of refinement of their pedagogical practices. In this sense, our research intends to offer information which can contribute to improve practices of reading and production of texts in fourth grade in elementary school.

Tais práticas são importantes para a formação de leitores e escritores autônomos e competentes. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa objetivou analisar o desenvolvimento de leitura e produção de textos na 4ª série do ensino fundamental buscando identificar concepções e práticas pedagógicas selecionadas nesse processo. O estudo foi realizado em duas escolas públicas, uma municipal e outra estadual. Optamos por realizar a pesquisa nestas duas instituições considerando que a maior parte dos alunos que recebemos na 5ª série é proveniente das escolas municipal e estadual escolhidas como locus da pesquisa. Também porque temos verificado em nossa prática pedagógica diária que os alunos oriundos destas escolas encontram dificuldades em Leitura e Produção de textos. Assim, tornou-se de extrema importância compreender como esse processo se configura, analisando as concepções teóricas da área de Língua Portuguesa definidas pelas professoras bem como a metodologia por elas utilizada para leitura e produção de textos. O presente estudo caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa, com delineamento de estudo de caso. Foram sujeitos da pesquisa duas docentes de 4ª séries, denominadas respectivamente docente A e docente B. Para o embasamento teórico nos utilizamos dos conceitos de leitura como uma atividade de produção de sentido e de texto como unidade concreta de significação, consideradas as condições de sua produção. Para a coleta de dados servimo-nos da análise documental (Projeto Político Pedagógico das escolas, Planos de Aulas das 4ª séries e atividades de produção de texto elaboradas pelas docentes), entrevistas com roteiros semi-estruturados e observações de sala de aula. De posse dos dados procedemos às análises levantando algumas categorias que trataram das concepções teóricas das docentes, das práticas de leitura e produção de textos - que revelaram a necessidade de aprimoramento das práticas pedagógicas das professoras.
