Um olhar sobre o ensino de Libras na formação inicial em pedagogia: utopia ou realidade?

This research rises from the concern faced in everyday school life of a public school, in which is possible realize that the teachers face difficulties regarding the process of communication through Libras (Brazilian Sign Language). This fact incites a discussion over the initial formation in education and supports the questionings about the lore taught at classes of Libras: Are the teaching tools offered at Libras by the universities suitable to supply the need for the teacher to work with his students? Which knowledge are enough so the teachers could work their classes in a meaning way? Based on the questionings this study aims to analyze the knowledge acquired by students of Libras and verify their opinions as if they are prepared to work with deaf students. Therefore, it was made a qualitative research, in which participated 58 students from two different universities from São Paulo. This study was based on the acquaintance already existent about deafness, especially the findings from Carlos Skliar, Maria Cecília de Moura, Ronice Muller de Quadros, Elcie Salzano Masini, among others, based on a social anthropological vision of deafness. In addition were used ideas about the importance of Brazilian Sign Language according to Neiva de Aquino Albres and Fernando Cesar Capovilla. It was concluded that the students are not comfortable enough with their knowledge to interact with deaf students, and they believe that is necessary to increase workload of Libras especially in what concerns about the practice of Libras. It was possible identify that the three major problems are: reduced workload, the need of few their practical classes and the need for more interaction with deaf students. The results also showed that the academics of Libras are underprepared to teach deaf students which leads to the necessity of rethinking the classes of Libras.
