Sensory representation is present in the processing of location information and positioning of the body as well as in the environment around the body where the motor action is performed. The interaction of spatial and body perception can be modulated by the plastic effect of multisensory integration with the use of perceptual tools or illusions as in the rubber hand illusion (RHI), which through the multisensory experience of spatial and temporal congruence of visual, tactile and proprioceptive inputs can to change the perception of body ownership, body schema and peripersonal space. Evidence suggests that transcranial stimulation technologies, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), are also promising for neuromodulation of multisensory integration of body schema and peripersonal space. In this line, the objective of this study was, through eight experiments, to modulate the multisensory plasticity of spatial and bodily representations in the sensory-motor perception of body ownership, as well as to establish the differences of peripersonal and extrapersonal spaces. 200 participants with typical development, of both sex, aged between 18 and 40 years, normal or corrected vision, right hand laterality. The eight experiments revealed that tDCS in the right PPC modulated the processing speed of visuo-tactile-proprioceptive integration in the immediate perception of body ownership; the proprioceptive recalibration of the hand positioning was modulated by the anodal tDCS in the right PPC and the attentional visuospatial task was displayed in the peripersonal space; and by the cathodal tDCS in the right CPM and the attentional visuospatial task was displayed in the extrapersonal space. Finally, the results suggested robust cross-modal interaction in the peripersonal space and decrease of this interaction in extrapersonal space.
