Resumo: This thesis presents an analysis on the correlation between the works of the contemporary art collection of the Inhotim Institute and the environment. Inhotim is considered the seat of one of the most important museums of contemporary art in Brazil, also recognized as one of the largest outdoor art centers in the world, as an important physical, architectural, cultural and environmental heritage. In it, exposed works of art are inserted in the environment, in a process of dialogue with nature, present in a forest reserve that was an old farm. In this way, the relation of the works with the environment in Inhotim, in terms of a dialogue, occurs from a process of integration and dialogue that also involves tensions, oppositions and contrasts that the work-environment dialogue itself proposes, through a place marked by dense vegetation and natural beauties, with artistic works, elaborated from installations, sculptures, videos, performances, paintings, murals, among other forms of expression, that seek to explore the different languages of art. Based on this assumption, this research presents basically three methodological approaches. These are: the bibliographic research method, the case study method and the field research method. The analysis is introduced through the presentation of a case study, which seeks to address the main aspects that identify and characterize the Inhotim Institute, which can be understood, within this methodological approach, as a source and object of analysis, when we dedicate ourselves to the study of its history and the production of its narratives. The main objective of the research is to analyze contemporary works of art from the Inhotim collection, proposing, through the methods of bibliographic research, case study and field research, with the collection of data, to verify the possibilities of relations between the works and the environment. It is relevant to point out that, from the perspective of the researched literature, concepts about contemporary art, about aesthetic enjoyment and about the perceptive and sensitive approach of the work of art are presented through a theoretical framework that was developed based on reflections presented by such as Archer (2012), Eco (2008), Argan (2010), Fischer (2010), Gombrich (2004), Heidegger (2014), Merleau-Ponty (1999), Taylor (2005), among others.

O Inhotim é considerado a sede de um dos mais importantes museus de arte contemporânea do Brasil, reconhecido também como um dos maiores centros de arte ao ar livre do mundo, enquanto um importante patrimônio físico-arquitetônico, cultural e ambiental. Nele, são expostas obras de arte inseridas no meio ambiente, num processo de diálogo com a natureza, presente numa reserva florestal que era uma antiga fazenda. Desta forma, a relação das obras com o meio ambiente no Inhotim, em termos de um diálogo, ocorre a partir de um processo de integração e interlocução que envolve também tensões, oposições e contrastes que o próprio diálogo obra-ambiente propõe, através de um local marcado pela densa vegetação e pelas belezas naturais, com obras artísticas, elaboradas a partir de instalações, esculturas, vídeos, performances, pinturas, murais, entre outras formas de expressão, que buscam explorar as diferentes linguagens da arte. A partir desse pressuposto, esta pesquisa apresenta basicamente três abordagens metodológicas. São elas: o método de pesquisa bibliográfico, o método de estudo de caso e o método de pesquisa de campo. A análise é introduzida através da apresentação de um estudo de caso, que procura abordar os principais aspectos que identificam e caracterizam o Instituto Inhotim, o qual pode ser compreendido, dentro dessa abordagem metodológica, como fonte e objeto de análise, quando nos dedicamos ao estudo de sua história e da produção de suas narrativas. O objetivo central da pesquisa situa-se na análise de obras de arte contemporâneas do acervo do Inhotim, propondo, através dos métodos de pesquisa bibliográfica, estudo de caso e pesquisa de campo, com a coleta de dados, verificar as possibilidades de relações entre as obras e o meio ambiente.
