This Master's dissertation aims at researching the control and accountability of arbitrators in arbitration processes at the national level. To better understand the theme, the study aims to analyze the historical evolution of arbitration, its legal nature, principles, characteristics, as well as the numbers of arbitration in Brazil, seeking to understand its dimension, the possibility of abuses of economic power in the midst of to the institute, as well as if there are and what are the civil responsibilities of the arbitrators, and also, if they answer for defects occurred in the execution of the system, including the ways in which the control of the arbitrator's activity occurs. The method used was that of literary and bibliographic review, through national and foreign doctrine, and data extracted from chambers and institutions that study arbitration, reaching the conclusion that although there may be abuses, including those of economic power, the practice of arbitration in Brazil has several mechanisms to combat them, including those to control the performance of the arbitrator, and civil liability is also possible in certain cases. It was also concluded that Brazilian chambers enjoy a good reputation and institute mechanisms that aim to guarantee quality and reliability, resulting in a good reputation regarding arbitration practices.
