The objective of this dissertation is to describe and analyze the processes of Social Learning for Sustainability (ASpS) built in the relations between the Agribusiness Sustainability Agents (ASA) and the rural producers of an agribusiness Bank. We sought to understand the context of the emergence of these professionals; the role of actors involved in solving socio-environmental problems; as well as the processes of ASpS that are directed to the resolution of socio-environmental problems, pointing out limits, advances and potentialities. Regarding the methodology, a qualitative and interpretive research was chosen. The data were constructed through in-depth interviews with 11 Agribusiness Sustainability Agents of the Bank object of study, complemented by research in documents made available by the organization. After analyzing and interpreting the collected data, we reached results that point to a learning process which has evolved since the creation of the position of Agribusiness Sustainability Agents by the Bank. The ASpS process occurs in four main ways: in practice, by the daily exercise of the function and in the interaction with the social actors; in the study of institutional policies that list sustainability guidelines and targets; in the adoption of new technologies in agribusiness; and in the training, courses and events of updating, improvement and qualification by the ASA. From the point of view of the advances, even though the position was created to mitigate risks in operations carried out, the Bank sought, through the ASA, to positively improve the performance oriented towards the sustainability of the clients with a proposal that goes beyond the mere audit. In relation to the most critical results, the achievement of economic, social and environmental objectives has significant limitations, considering what the idea of sustainable development presupposes. Important dimensions of sustainability are not being considered, such as demographic, political and cultural; the narratives do not indicate to question or to restrain the expansion of businesses in the field that can end, in the last instance, being unsustainable; nor do they refer to the lack of dialogue among different social actors, which hampers the construction of a genuine process of social learning for sustainability. As contributions, it was intended to advance the discussions about social learning for sustainability within the framework of for-profit institutions, and more specifically in the context of agriculture, as well as presenting elements to improve social learning processes for sustainability.
