Resumo: This investigation was carried out in a specialized institution aiming at the knowledge of the practical aspects involving the intermission in the therapeutic process of children with cerebral palsy under the family's point of view. Differing from the discharge, the intermission usually happens when the patient did not achieve basic goals established by the institution to be kept in treatment. A group of ten parents of children with cerebral palsy who attended a specific institution were interviewed between January and March, 2008, with semi-structured questions about the implications of the intermission in the therapeutic process of their children on the families. Collected data were qualitatively analyzed. For these parents, the way how intermission was conducted has generated anguish and suffering for the family as well as for the patient with cerebral palsy, who played in fact an adjuvant role in all this process. Results have pointed out as well the emotional discomfort of the professionals who play the hard role of communicating the intermission without being prepared for it. The constitution of a multidisciplinar support team for realizing gradually the intermission was suggested, so that the resignification of the process in changes in the way it has usually been conducted.

Esse desligamento, diferentemente da alta, acontece quando o paciente não conseguiu atingir os objetivos mínimos necessários para permanecer em tratamento na instituição. Foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com dez pais de crianças com paralisia cerebral de uma instituição da cidade de São Paulo, buscando-se conhecer as implicações do desligamento dos filhos nas famílias. As entrevistas com os pais foram realizadas no período de janeiro a março de 2008. Optou-se por abordagem qualitativa de pesquisa, dado o seu caráter dinâmico, tendo-se buscado na análise de conteúdo a fonte para a compreensão do fenômeno do desligamento nas famílias. Os resultados desta pesquisa levaram-nos à constatação de que, para os pais participantes, o desligamento do filho da instituição, conforme tem sido conduzido, é fator gerador de angústia e desencadeante de grande sofrimento para as famílias em geral e, em especial, para o paciente com paralisia cerebral que, no contexto do desligamento, acaba tendo papel coadjuvante. Adicionalmente, a pesquisa apontou para o desconforto emocional dos profissionais que desempenham o difícil papel de agente comunicador da notícia do desligamento sem, contudo, sentir-se preparado para tal.
