Through the study of the trajectory of Cornelio Pires, this research deals with the construction of the countryman of São Paulo and its sonority, divulged and spread during the life of the journalist and storyteller. Biographical studies were understood by Cultural history as one of the ways of writing history. It incorporates sources, records of life trajectories, verbal and non-verbal documents, safeguarded in family files or in assets and museums (supposing that the character represented cultural, social, political or historical relevance to society). When dealing with the complexity of biographical studies, we opted for the clipping, trajectory. The preservation of the memory of something or someone is related to the relations of power and meanings and social representations. Cornelio Pires' countryman intersects with the interests of the São Paulo elites and the modernists in the early twentieth century to construct the modern and progressive social imaginary of São Paulo, as opposed to the petty, rustic and archaic hick represented by literature until then. Theoretical-methodological basis that support this research cover the propositions of Jacques Le Goff on methodological rigor in document analysis and trajectory history production, Antonio Candido and Mário de Andrade on the construction of the smart countryman (Cornelio) in opposition to the hick (Monteiro Lobato). The documentary corpus investigated, were the records safeguarded in the collections of the Museum and Institute Cornelio Pires, in the city of Tiete, composed by texts of the circus spectacles, short stories and tales, anecdotes, albums with music get-togethers and speeches by Cornelio Pires, and mainly the sonority of the music spread by the journalist. In the face of richness and documentary complexity, the focus was a life trajectory and a sound of the country music released from the recordings of Cornelio Pires in the countryside of São Paulo, south and triangle of Minas Gerais, southeast of Goias and Mato Grosso.
