Resumo: Biochemical and hematological parameters of Testudines are scarce in the literature. The purpose of this dissertation was to describe all the stages and procedures that were carried out with six species of testudines, of the species of Geoffroy’s side-necked turtle (Phrynops geoffroanus), Giant south American river turtle (Podocnemys expansa), Tuberculate toadhead turtle (Mesoclemmys tuberculata), Red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonaria), yellowspotted amazon river turtle (Podocnemis unifilis), Black-bellied slider (Trachemys dorbigni) of the Dois Irmãos State Park Zoo, Recife-PE. Ten animals of each species were used, in which the clinically healthy animals underwent biometry and dorsal coccygeal vein puncture, from which blood samples were obtained for hematological evaluation (erythrogram and leukogram), which were Total Red Blood Cell Count, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit (obtained by the microhematocrit method), hematimetric indexes (VCM, HCM and CHCM), Total Plasma Proteins (obtained by refractometry) and Differential Leukocyte Count, besides serum biochemical parameters, which included liver enzyme dosage (ALT, ALP and GGT), Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Total Proteins, which were obtained by semiautomatic biochemical counter with the use of commercial reagent kit. Sodium Heparin was used as an anticoagulant, however the smears were fresh. In the hemogram and serum biochemistry, statistically significant differences were observed in relation to the literature data, where such variations possibly occur due to the differences between the species, or the methods of collection, seasonality, sex of the animals and type of anticoagulant used, when the animals compared were of the same species. Through the hematological analysis and also the blood biochemistry analysis of these species, it was possible to suggest normal values for the species under study in captivity, favoring the interpretation of hemograms obtained from animals of these species in captivity, which is still quite controversial.

Submitted by Mario BC (mario@bc.ufrpe.br) on 2018-02-21T14:03:54Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Floriano Pereira Nunes Junior.pdf: 2652850 bytes, checksum: 3caf81d797bddac56c9c45f0ce690265 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2018-02-21T14:03:54Z (GMT).
