Resumo: The main purpose of this research is to address an issue that is little discussed in the professional education system, which is the management model that emerges from the practices of general directors, especially those that make up the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Tecnologia do Piau?? (IFPI), with the general objective of analyzing the profiles and management practices of the IFPI directors, starting from the managerial and democratic assumptions. The school administration has been the subject of debates and discussions by several authors in the contemporary world and is currently the focus of discussions for the improvement of education in the country. The research problem is: Which of the two management models (managerial or democratic) do the management practices of IFPI camp directors identify? For the development of this study, we sought theoretical basis in the studies of several authors, among them: Saviani (2007); Frigotto; Ciavatta and Ramos (2005, 2006), Kuenzer (2000, 2007); Cunha (2000, 2002); Caires and Oliveira (2016); Vieira (2007, 2009); Cabral Neto and Castro (2011); Paro (1995, 1996, 2003). The research used the qualitative methodological approach in the policy cycle approach, with field research, based on a case study, as a research strategy based on its adequacy to the research objectives. The methodological techniques used were the interview, questionnaire, discussion group and documentary analysis, using as a source of analysis the documents generated by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the IFPI. The focus of the research was set in the context of practice, where policies are constantly reinterpreted. Based on the field research, it was verified that the directors of the IFPI have a managerial practice more focused on the managerial management. It is noteworthy that the model of democratic management is only found in some institutional documents. The results of this research reveal, therefore, that the managerial model is highlighted in IFPI because there are specific forms of regulation of professional education, expressed through management contracts, Management Reports, Institutional Development Plan and even the performance of external control bodies. Even though these documents present more emphasis on managerial management, the general directors, in their speeches, reinforce that they use democratic management, but in the context of practice, managerial management is evident in the actions of directors, as they seek to achieve the results expected by the MEC and rector of the IFPI. It is hoped, therefore, that this research may contribute to the improvement of the quality of professional education, taking as a reference the actions of managers, as a constant search for changes that may take place within the institution studied.

(IFPI), teniendo como objetivo general analizar los perfiles y las pr??cticas de gesti??n de los directores del IFPI, partiendo de los presupuestos gerencialistas y democr??ticos. Para el desarrollo de este estudio, se busc?? fundamentaci??n te??rica en los estudios de diversos autores, entre ellos: Saviani (2007); Frigotto; Ciavatta y Ramos (2005, 2006), Kuenzer (2000, 2007); Cunha (2000, 2002); Caires y Oliveira (2016); Vieira (2007, 2009); Cabral Neto y Castro (2011); Paro (1995, 1996, 2003). La investigaci??n utiliz?? el enfoque metodol??gico cualitative que se refer??a en el abordaje del ciclo de pol??ticas, con investigaci??n de campo, basada en un estudio de caso, como estrategia de investigaci??n en funci??n de su adecuaci??n a los objetivos de la investigaci??n. Las t??cnicas metodol??gicas utilizadas fueron la entrevista, cuestionario, grupo de discusi??n y el an??lisis documental, utilizando como fuente de an??lisis los documentos generados por el Ministerio de Educaci??n (MEC) y el IFPI. El enfoque de la investigaci??n se bas?? en el contexto de la pr??ctica, donde las pol??ticas son constantemente reinterpretadas. Con base en la investigaci??n de campo, se verific?? que los directores del IFPI tienen una pr??ctica gestionaria m??s orientada hacia la gesti??n gerencial. Se destaca que el modelo de gesti??n democr??tica s??lo se encuentra en algunos documentos institucionales. Los resultados de esta investigaci??n revelan, as??, que el modelo gerencial est?? en destaque en el IFPI debido a que existen formas espec??ficas de regulaci??n de la educaci??n profesional, expresadas por medio de contratos de gesti??n, de los Informes de Gesti??n, del Plan de Desarrollo Institucional e incluso de la actuaci??n de los ??rganos de control externo. A pesar de que estos documentos presentan con m??s ??nfasis una gesti??n gerencial, los directores generales, en sus discursos, refuerzan que utilizan la gesti??n democr??tica, pero, en el contexto de la pr??ctica, la gesti??n gerencial es que se evidencia en las acciones de los directores, pues ellos buscan alcanzar los resultados esperados por el MEC y la rector??a del IFPI. O problema da pesquisa ??: Com qual dos dois modelos de gest??o (gerencial ou democr??tico) as pr??ticas gestion??rias dos diretores dos campi do IFPI se identificam? Para o desenvolvimento desse estudo, buscou-se fundamenta????o te??rica nos estudos de diversos autores, entre eles: Saviani (2007); Frigotto; Ciavatta e Ramos (2005, 2006), Kuenzer (2000,2007); Cunha (2000, 2002); Caires e Oliveira (2016); Vieira (2007, 2009); Cabral Neto e Castro (2011); Paro (1995, 1996, 2003). A pesquisa utilizou a abordagem metodol??gica qualitativa referendada na abordagem do ciclo de pol??ticas, com pesquisa de campo, baseada em estudo de caso, como estrat??gia de investiga????o em fun????o de sua adequa????o aos objetivos da pesquisa. As t??cnicas metodol??gicas utilizadas foram a entrevista, question??rio, grupo de discuss??o e a an??lise documental, utilizando como fonte de an??lise os documentos gerados pelo Minist??rio da Educa????o (MEC) e pelo IFPI. O foco da investiga????o foi pautado no contexto da pr??tica, onde as pol??ticas s??o constantemente reinterpretadas. Com base na pesquisa de campo, verificou-se que os diretores do IFPI t??m uma pr??tica gestion??ria mais voltada para a gest??o gerencial. Destaca-se que o modelo de gest??o democr??tica s?? ?? encontrado em alguns documentos institucionais. Os resultados dessa investiga????o revelam, assim, que o modelo gerencial est?? em destaque no IFPI devido haver formas espec??ficas de regula????o da educa????o profissional, expressas por meio de contratos de gest??o, dos Relat??rios de Gest??o, do Plano de Desenvolvimento Institucional e at?? mesmo da atua????o dos ??rg??os de controle externo. Mesmo que esses documentos apresentem com mais ??nfase uma gest??o gerencial, os diretores gerais, nos seus discursos, refor??am que utilizam a gest??o democr??tica, mas, no contexto da pr??tica, a gest??o gerencial ?? que se evidencia nas a????es dos diretores, pois eles procuram alcan??ar os resultados esperados pelo MEC e reitoria do IFPI. description The main purpose of this research is to address an issue that is little discussed in the professional education system, which is the management model that emerges from the practices of general directors, especially those that make up the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Tecnologia do Piau?? (IFPI), with the general objective of analyzing the profiles and management practices of the IFPI directors, starting from the managerial and democratic assumptions. The school administration has been the subject of debates and discussions by several authors in the contemporary world and is currently the focus of discussions for the improvement of education in the country. The research problem is: Which of the two management models (managerial or democratic) do the management practices of IFPI camp directors identify? For the development of this study, we sought theoretical basis in the studies of several authors, among them: Saviani (2007); Frigotto; Ciavatta and Ramos (2005, 2006), Kuenzer (2000, 2007); Cunha (2000, 2002); Caires and Oliveira (2016); Vieira (2007, 2009); Cabral Neto and Castro (2011); Paro (1995, 1996, 2003). The research used the qualitative methodological approach in the policy cycle approach, with field research, based on a case study, as a research strategy based on its adequacy to the research objectives. The methodological techniques used were the interview, questionnaire, discussion group and documentary analysis, using as a source of analysis the documents generated by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the IFPI. The focus of the research was set in the context of practice, where policies are constantly reinterpreted. Based on the field research, it was verified that the directors of the IFPI have a managerial practice more focused on the managerial management. It is noteworthy that the model of democratic management is only found in some institutional documents. The results of this research reveal, therefore, that the managerial model is highlighted in IFPI because there are specific forms of regulation of professional education, expressed through management contracts, Management Reports, Institutional Development Plan and even the performance of external control bodies. Even though these documents present more emphasis on managerial management, the general directors, in their speeches, reinforce that they use democratic management, but in the context of practice, managerial management is evident in the actions of directors, as they seek to achieve the results expected by the MEC and rector of the IFPI. It is hoped, therefore, that this research may contribute to the improvement of the quality of professional education, taking as a reference the actions of managers, as a constant search for changes that may take place within the institution studied.
