Resumo: Burnout Syndrome (BS) is characterized by a psychosocial phenomenon that occurs in response to chronic interpersonal stressors in a work environment, especially during labour conflicts, when there is excessive pressure, little recognition or success, and few emotional rewards. This syndrome consists of three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low professional fulfilment. Currently, it has being evaluated as an important public health problem with epidemiological characteristics that are not education specific, or culture specific or involve a particular social reality, or occurs in a specific country. The occupational stress is compromising the health and quality of life of the teachers because it appears that the classrooms are increasingly overcrowded, there is little professional valorisation, and salary wages are low, in addition to other issues and factors that can trigger stress. This dissertation consists of two studies, a systematic review of the literature and an empirical study. The study I, entitled "Burnout Syndrome in teachers in Brazil: considerations for a research agenda" aimed at raising and summarizing the main systematic review of studies conducted with teachers in Burnout in Brazil. The study II, which is the "Effect assessment of the intervention program to the Burnout Syndrome of the teachers", was intended to assess the effect of preventive intervention for Burnout Syndrome to be applied to teachers. The intervention was carried out during six meetings in which the issues discussed were self-diagnosis, healthy coping strategies, management of problems and emotions, management of the time between family/work, realistic professional expectations, and participation of parents in school. This study had the participation of 20 teachers who work in a primary public school in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, RS. From the first study, it was possible to identify that it is still in its infancy the amount of studies about the associated factors with Burnout Syndrome. However, the results show association between individual socio-demographic variables and personality, contextual variables related to the job/work, and the consequences of Burnout, identifying the need for expansion of the agenda because of the shortcomings identified, particularly regarding the interventions. In study II the results obtained by comparison of the pre and post-test scores, being evaluated as initial evidence of the effect of the proposed intervention because variables such as illusion, coping focused on the problem, and variability of emotions at work have achieved significant results. Accordingly, it can be concluded that intervention programs for stress management and BS can be beneficial for the teachers, as well as for the educational institutions and for the society in general.

Submitted by Setor de Tratamento da Informa??o - BC/PUCRS (tede2@pucrs.br) on 2016-02-05T10:37:40Z No. of bitstreams: 1 DIS_LARISSA_DALCIN_COMPLETO.pdf: 1225207 bytes, checksum: dcbe6480c5220458cc535bd80658c9be (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2016-02-05T10:37:40Z (GMT).
