Concerns, questionings and reflections have always permeated the author s practice as a social initiative consultant. Such initiatives, however, had not been regarded more deeply before the master s course. The decision to do that derived from the possibility of learning how to reflect in a more oriented way through a research, systematizing and generating knowledge, thus clarifying doubts and bringing new questionings to light. This dissertation has stemmed from the author s practice as an executive consultant in a project of formation of a network of governmental and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). Such project made questionings emerge along its implementation. This is a qualitative study that aims at understanding how a network of collaborators from different NGOs has been formed by using a documental analysis of records of this experience. In order to do that, the procedures and strategies used in the experience have been identified, described and analyzed, and the evolution of human relationships among the network members has been identified. The experience has been understood from both the perspective of theorists that have studied this kind of network, and the complexity paradigm proposed by Edgar Morin, by thinking about the phenomenon and taking its complexity into consideration.The understanding of the empirical material has evidenced the importance of both the network developer in the process of network formation and this professional s profile. It has also led to the suggestion of using strategies to guide the interventions, rather than using already established methodologies to form networks. Besides, the study has enabled us to understand the dynamics of the network relationships concerning the principles that guide them. This has led to the proposal of new terms to conceptualize them and a process to describe their establishment
