Considering that Maria de Lourdes Nunes Ramalho’s dramaturgy formalizes themes focused on the discussion of the Brazilian feminine condition centered on the binomial honor/shame while gears of the modern tragic, set in spaces marked by the Northeastern regionality, we undertake the analysis-interpretation and the occurrence of what we define as the construction of a tragic-regional worldview in the play Os mal-amados (1977). Therefore, in this research, the ramalhiano text is being identified as regional because certain themes and ways of reading/forming the Northeast are inserted in an eminently tragic structure of feeling. In order to support this discussion, we use the methodological key coined by Raymond Williams, in which the content of the author's experience is formalized through conventions focused on the representation of tragedy and regionality. Thus, we observe that the esthetic representations of the country space bear marks of a residual structure of the patriarch but while the attempt of subversion occurs, by the actions of the female characters, there is the activation of tragic situations which led to the reading of the play with modern drama characteristics because it presents contradictions in the plan of form /content that dialogues with the way of feeling and forming proper of what we call tragic-regional, evidencing, therefore, the possibility of its creation in the modernity.
