The present dissertation aims to go through the paths of memory in the fictional work Vermelho amarre (2011), by Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós. Therefore, it starts from the premise that there is no pure memory. As Bartolomeu assures us, memory is always fanciful. Considering that it is on the threshold between the lived and the dreamed that poetic prose is woven, the research mixes elements of the writer's life based on texts, interviews and testimonies with the fictional text. It is in the permanent symbiosis between the lived and the dreamed, between the real memory and the fantasized memory that the fiction of Red Bitter is sustained. Memory is re-signified in poetic prose and on paper the words move between sweet and bitter, woven from metaphorical images. The purpose of the research is to point out that in the autofictional works, as is the case of Red Bitter, the literary text must stand out, being unnecessary to delimit the border between the lived and the dreamed, considering that literature is established in doubt. As theoretical support for the elaboration of the dissertation, the contributions of Serge Doubrovsky (autofiction), Philippe Lejeune (autobiography), Bachelard (memory, imagination, fantasy), Roland Barthes (biographeme concept), Rodrigues Lapa (fantasy of words - intellectual and affective value of words), Chevalier and Gheerbrant (study of symbols), Jacques Rancière (sharing the sensitive), Marisa Gama-Khalil and Liliân Borges (internal gaze), among other authors.
