Resumo: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the interdisciplinary and transversal relationship among cinema, arts and humanity studies in Salvador and the Recôncavo Region of Bahia (Brazil) from years 1950 to 1970. Film critic and historian Walter da Silveira (head of Clube de Cinema da Bahia) fostered dialogue with the emergent scene of Brazilian independent critics and filmmakers. In addiction to his work, this study argues that such production could have only taken place thanks to a strong interaction with other develloping knowledge areas and artistic fields. Together, they became part of a cultural and artistic environment related to deep social, cultural and subjective change experienced by the city of Salvador during its urban, cultural and artistic modernization. It is within this ecosystem that we identify the birth of artistic expressions, techniques and concepts that feed and nourish each other in the process of convergence/ divergence/ interdependence among the means of production and reproducibility. Different conceptions of the world, art, culture, modernity, folklore, and the afro-descendant agency in the constitution of a cinematography in the Bahia State also flourished in this same ecosystem in this period. Focusing on the multitemporality of the images and the cultural history through heterogeneous temporal models, we aim to integrate the experience of marginalized historical subjects in their acts of resistance, survival, struggles and, above everything, in their networks of vital relationships and their ability to ensure new creative becomings and new life-affirming powers

Para além da atuação do crítico e historiador Walter da Silveira à frente do Clube de Cinema da Bahia, e de seu diálogo com uma emergente cena da crítica e do cinema independentes no Brasil, defendemos que essa produção só foi possível a partir de uma forte interação com o desenvolvimento de outros campos artísticos e áreas do conhecimento, constituindo-se como parte de um ecossistema cultural e artístico que corresponderá às profundas mudanças sociais, culturais e subjetivas vividas pela cidade de Salvador, a partir de seu processo de modernização urbana, artística e cultural. É dentro desse ecossistema que é possível identificar o surgimento de práticas, técnicas e conceitos artísticos que se alimentam e retroalimentam, dentro de um processo de convergências/divergências/interdependências entre as condições de produção e reprodutibilidade, bem como de diferentes concepções de mundo, de arte, de cultura, do moderno, do popular e da agência afro-descendente na constituição de uma cinematografia no estado nesse período.
