Resumo: The projects in the petroleum industry (oil, gas and derivatives) are characterized by their technical complexity and management. These projects are planned, designed, and executed by large, distributed, multi-disciplinary teams that strive to implement innovative solutions that will allow exploring and producing oil and gas from deep water fields (Offshore). In this scenario, it is evident the importance of new knowledge leading to increased management competence of the organizations that are involved in Engineering, Procurement and Acquisition (EPC) projects. Based on a literature review related to EPC Projects , Offshore Projects and Project Success , and a questionnaire responded by 37 experienced professionals, working for 24 different organizations of the sector, it was possible to identify the main objectives or success criteria (Cost, Time, Quality, Scope, Customer Satisfaction, Security, Team Satisfaction and Shareholder Satisfaction) as well as the named Hypercritical Success Factors (Competent Project Manager, Planning, Qualified Project Team and Realistic Budget), among other Critical Success Factors. The understanding of the relative importance of the critical success factors to each performance objective is another key element in this research. Esses projetos são planejados e executados por equipes numerosas, distribuídas geograficamente e com conhecimentos multidisciplinares, que buscam implantar soluções inovadoras que permitirão explorar e produzir óleo e gás, localizados em campos em águas profundas e longe da costa (Offshore). Diante desse cenário, fica evidente a importância de novos conhecimentos que levem ao aumento da competência gerencial das organizações envolvidas nesses projetos de Engenharia, Suprimentos e Construção, comumente chamados de projetos EPC (do inglês, Engineering, Procurement and Acquisition). Baseado em uma revisão de literatura relacionada à Projetos EPC , a Projetos Offshore e a Sucesso em Projetos e a partir das respostas de 37 experientes profissionais, atuando em 24 diferentes organizações do setor, foi possível identificar os principais objetivos ou critérios de sucesso (Custo, Tempo, Qualidade, Escopo, Satisfação do Cliente, Segurança, Satisfação da Equipe e Satisfação dos Acionistas) bem como os denominados Fatores Hipercríticos de Sucesso (Gerente de Projeto Competente, Planejamento, Equipe de Projeto Qualificada e Orçamento Adequado e Realista), dentre outros Fatores Críticos de Sucesso. O entendimento da importância relativa de cada fator crítico para cada um dos objetivos de um projeto foi outro elemento fundamental observado nesse estudo.
