Resumo: This work had the objective of analyzing the behaviors and competencies of the employees of a federal institution of higher education. The paper reviews sustainability and sustainable development, sustainability in public management, green university and behaviors and competencies. A qualitative and quantitative study was done (documentary research to identify how sustainability is treated in the institution's documents; questionnaire survey method applied to the servers based on a non-probabilistic sampling for convenience). In all, the institution has 4,729 servers; 549 answered the questionnaire and of these only 481 were useful to the survey. The findings reveal that the institution has a Sustainable Logistics Management Plan, which contemplates sustainability guidelines, and which promotes training courses focused on environmental education and sustainability. The competences that contribute most to the construction of a green university were identified as: Thinking in a prospective way; I take advantage of economic opportunities to improve livelihoods and quality of life; I think creatively and critically; I always aim to keep learning; I am looking for collaborative learning; I am sympathetic / supportive / I know how to put myself in another's place; I reason myself and others; I seek peace in the world. The behaviors that most contribute to the construction of a Green University, according to the research, are: I turn off the light when I leave empty environments; I avoid wasting energy; I save water when possible; I avoid waste of natural resources; When I do not find a bin near, I store the waste to discard in the proper place; I avoid wasting food; I collaborate with the preservation of the city where I live. With the identification of the behaviors and competencies of the servers, the institution can develop strategies of opportunities so that a Green University can be built. The findings reveal to the institution that the competencies and behaviors for sustainability are more focused on the individual scope. It is necessary, therefore, that the university develop strategies and actions in order to promote the collective. Institutionally, the university can promote and encourage training courses on education and sustainable management, promotion announcements that value interdisciplinary actions and projects focused on sustainability and structuring a sector that manages environmental issues at a strategic level.

O trabalho faz uma revisão sobre os temas sustentabilidade e desenvolvimento sustentável, sustentabilidade na gestão pública, universidade verde e comportamentos e competências. Foi feito um estudo qualitativo e quantitativo (pesquisa documental para identificar como a sustentabilidade é tratada nos documentos da instituição; método survey com questionário aplicado aos servidores com base em uma amostragem não-probabilística por conveniência). Ao todo, a instituição tem 4.729 servidores; 549 responderam ao questionário e, destes, apenas 481 foram úteis à pesquisa. Os achados revelam que a instituição possui um Plano de Gestão de Logística Sustentável, o qual contempla diretrizes da sustentabilidade, e que promove cursos de capacitação voltados para a educação ambiental e sustentabilidade. As competências que mais contribuem para a construção de uma universidade verde foram identificadas como: Penso de forma prospectiva; Aproveito as oportunidades econômicas para melhorar a subsistência e a qualidade de vida; Penso de forma criativa e crítica; Tenho sempre o objetivo de seguir aprendendo; Busco uma aprendizagem colaborativa; Sou simpático/solidário/sei me colocar no lugar do outro; Motivo-me e aos demais; Busco a paz no mundo. Os comportamentos que mais contribuem para a construção de uma Universidade Verde, segundo a pesquisa, são: Apago a luz quando saio de ambientes vazios; Evito desperdício de energia; Economizo água quando possível; Evito desperdício dos recursos naturais; Quando não encontro uma lixeira por perto, guardo o resíduo para descartar no local adequado; Evito o desperdício de alimentos; Colaboro com a preservação da cidade onde vivo. Com a identificação dos comportamentos e competências dos servidores, a instituição poderá desenvolver estratégias de oportunidades para que se possa construir uma Universidade Verde. Os achados revelam à instituição que as competências e comportamentos para a sustentabilidade estão mais voltados para o âmbito individual. É necessário, com isso, que a universidade desenvolva estratégias e ações a fim de promover o coletivo.
