Resumo: The economical process of opening begun in the decade of 1990 it exposed the swine chain the international competition. Therefore, this sector begun a process of productive restructuring in order to stimulate the modernization, to obtain gain in competitiveness and to attend the consumers' demands. The importance of studying of the exports competitiveness of Brazilian meat of swine refers to expanded participation of this segment in the generation of currency and employment. In the international ambit, the majority countries competitors adopt posture of maintain and increase their exports, which can harm the Brazilian s competitiveness. Considering importance of that segment, this research aimed to analyze the behavior of the exports of meat swine in relation to Brazilian s major competitors, which ones: Canada, The United States and European Union, from 1990 to 2004. For the empiric analysis, the models of substitution elasticity and the model of Constant Market Share were applied; and the indicators of position index in the world trade, the index of revealed comparative advantage and the profitability index were calculated. The analysis of the position index indicated that Brazil is increasing its participation in the world trade of meat swine in terms of value and amount, larger than rate to the one of your major s competitors. The results of the profitability index show that the country presents competitiveness, but that this has been decreasing in the period analyzed, due to the fall in the export price, being, therefore, necessary to increase the sale of products with larger value. The index of revealed comparative advantage evidenced that the Brazil started present advantages in the exports of meat swine, and this increment was larger than your major s competitors. The estimated values for the model of substitution elasticity show that the importers countries associate the meat of swine origin s country. This indicator also shows that the exports of meat Brazilian swine don't compete with the exports of the United States, European Union and Canada. The analysis of Constant Market Share identified that the competitiveness was fundamental for the expansion of the Brazilian export of meat swine. In agreement with the results the competition between Brazil and its major s competitors increased, and the increment of the Brazilian participation in the world trade was provided by the growth of the competitiveness. This is explained by several factors, such as the adoption of new production technologies that allowed the increasing of the productivity, soy and corn available - main input used in the ration for swine, improvement the genetic profile of the swine. Therefore, in the analyzed period the competitiveness of the meat swine increase of due to the changes for the which allowed the Brazilians exports of meat swine become fundamental in the generation of currency to the country and that Brazil became great competitor in the world trade.

Com isso, este setor iniciou um processo de reestruturação produtiva no sentido de estimular a modernização, obter ganhos em competitividade e atender às exigências dos consumidores. A importância do estudo da competitividade das exportações de carne suína brasileira refere-se à crescente participação deste segmento na geração de divisas e emprego. Além disso, no âmbito internacional, os principais países competidores adotam uma postura de manter e ampliar suas exportações, o que pode comprometer o desempenho competitivo do país. Considerando a crescente importância desse segmento, buscou-se nesta pesquisa analisar o comportamento das exportações de carne suína em relação aos seus principais concorrentes: Canadá, Estados Unidos e União Européia, no período de 1990 a 2004. Na análise empírica foram aplicados o modelo de elasticidade de substituição e o modelo de Constant Market Share, calculando-se ainda o índice de posição no comércio mundial, o índice de vantagem comparativa revelada e o índice de rentabilidade. A análise do índice de posição indicou que o Brasil vem aumentando sua participação no comércio mundial de carne suína em termos de valor e quantidade, em uma taxa superior à de seus principais concorrentes. Os resultados do índice de rentabilidade apontaram que o país apresenta competitividade, mas que esta tem diminuído ao longo dos anos, devido à queda no preço de exportação, sendo, portanto, necessário aumentar a venda de produtos com maior valor agregado. O índice de vantagem comparativa revelada evidenciou que o país passou a apresentar vantagens nas exportações de carne suína, sendo que este incremento foi superior ao de seus concorrentes. Os valores estimados para o modelo de elasticidade de substituição indicaram que os países importadores associam a carne suína ao seu país de origem, percebendo cada produto como diferente quanto a sua confiabilidade. Esse indicador mostra também que as exportações de carne suína brasileira não competem com as exportações dos Estados Unidos, União Européia e Canadá. A análise de Constant Market Share identificou que a competitividade foi fundamental para a expansão da exportação brasileira de carne suína. De acordo com os resultados, a concorrência entre Brasil e seus principais concorrentes aumentou, e o incremento da participação brasileira no comércio mundial foi proporcionado pelo crescimento da competitividade. Este é explicado por diversos fatores, como a adoção de novas tecnologias de produção, que permitiram o aumento da produtividade, disponibilidade de soja e milho principal insumo utilizado na ração para suínos e ocorreu melhora do perfil genético dos suínos.
