The present study showed a financial and managing profile of 605 small and micro dairy industries present in the Minas Gerais State. To treat the data multivariate analysis techniques were used as factorial analysis, grouping analysis and discriminative analysis. The factorial analysis use allowed the reduction of nine important variables in the description of the groups formed at four factors, which originated the grouping analysis. This analysis identified two industries groups, and the discriminative analysis was carried out with the objective of indicating the success percentage in the industries classification. Group 1 was composed by 432 industries and group 2 by 173. The methodology applied to the study showed to be very efficient where the industries grouping in homogeneous groups was concerned, allowing the knowledge of the financial and managing reality of each group, specifically. Group 1 showed as its main characteristic, the management directors deficiency, which hampers very much these industries maintenance in the market. Whereas group 2 had management directors much more competent, and many positive points could be outlined. However, the planning process showed to be wanting. Besides the internal processes, both group directors identified many external factors that hamper these industries survival, among them we cite the disloyal competition, the high tributary charges, the sector informality, the consumers income, the raw matter seasons, the badly structure legislation, the high interest rates and the supermarkets pressure. A high idleness level was also observed, which hampers these industries development. In this scenario, with the class and foment entities union and, mainly, the sector entrepreneurs, the implementation of actions such as an incentive to the formation of entrepreneurs groups, aiming at the viability of specialized technical hiring to create a technical and management orientation model which could make possible the increase in these industries competitiveness, is possible.
