Resumo: A trial was carried out aiming to determine the digestible lysine requirement for growing uncastrated male pigs (54 to 100 days or 20 to 60 kg) and to evaluate nutritional plans of lysine for growing-finishing immunocastrated male pigs (54 to 155 days or 20 to 120 kg). Eighty uncastrated male pigs weighing 19.5 ± 2.6 kg and 54 days old were allocated in a randomised block design, with five treatments, eight replicates and two pigs per pen (experimental unit). The experimental diets and water were provided ad libitum to the animals throughout the trial that lasted 101 days (54 to 155 days). At 100 and 128 days old (days 46 and 74 of the trial, respectively), all pigs were injected with 2.0 mL of a commercial vaccine for immunological castration of boars. Pigs were weighed and the amount of feed provided in each pen (discounted leftovers and wastes) was calculated at 100, 128 and 155 days old (days 46, 74 and 101 of the trial, respectively) to determine feed and digestible lysine intake, weigh gain and feed conversion ratio in each experimental period (54 to 100; 54 to 128 and 54 to 155 days old). Pig Longissimus muscle area and depth as well as back fat depth were measured by ultrasound at 100 and 155 days old. Hot carcase weight, meat quantity and meat yield were measured at slaughter (156 days old). In the grower phase (54 to 100 days old), the treatments corresponded to the digestible lysine levels of 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 g/kg, and influenced linearly, the feed conversion ratio (P<0.01) and the Longissimus muscle area (P<0.05). The predicted level of digestible lysine for minimum feed conversion ratio and maximum Longissimus muscle area was 13 g/kg. In the growing-finishing phase (54 to 155 days old), treatments corresponded to the nutritional plans of digestible lysine of 9-8-7, 10-9-8, 11-10-9, 12-11-10 e 13-12-11 g/kg, and were fed to pigs from 54 to 100, 100 to 128 and 128 to 155 x days, respectively. The nutritional plans of digestible lysine had no effect on the performance, nor on the carcase parameters of growing-finishing immunocastrated male pigs (P>0.05). In conclusion, growing uncastrated male pigs (54 to 100 days or 20 to 60 kg) require at least 13 g/kg of digestible lysine for minimum feed conversion ratio and maximum Longissimus muscle area; and that, the nutritional plan with a sequence of diets containing 9, 8 and 7 g/kg of digestible lysine, fed from 54 to 100, 100 to 128 and 128 to 155 days, respectively, meets the requirements of growing-finishing immunocastrated male pigs (54 to 155 days or 20 to 120 kg).

description A trial was carried out aiming to determine the digestible lysine requirement for growing uncastrated male pigs (54 to 100 days or 20 to 60 kg) and to evaluate nutritional plans of lysine for growing-finishing immunocastrated male pigs (54 to 155 days or 20 to 120 kg).
