Approximately 7% to 12% of Brazilian children and adolescents have mental health problems requiring some form of mental health care. The Primary Care health professionals should be able to fully attend the individual including the attendance of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems. Thus, the aim of this study are to design, implement and evaluate an educational model via interactive tele-education on mental health in childhood and adolescence to train health professionals of Primary Care. This training was structured in two modules with distance learning environments and classroom. Twenty-five professionals, doctors and nurses, of the Family Health Strategy, from five Basic Health Units of the micro-region Butantã / Jaguaré on São Paulo city were trained. For the distance module were developed Units of Knowledge and used interactive tools. The module of classroom was based on training Mental health communication skills for child and adolescent primary care . The professionals were evaluated before and after training with specific knowledge questionnaire and surveys on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP), in additional investigated their opinions on the quality and usefulness of the training. Was constructed an interactive learning environment that has eight units of knowledge, with five videos-mosaic about depression, anxiety disorder, conduct disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and pervasive developmental disorders, two videos-interview about the structure of mental health system in childhood and adolescence in Brazil, an animated tutorial on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire for screening of mental health problems. The study results showed that overall, there were statistically significant acquisition of knowledge after training (p <0.01). This knowledge acquisition occurred both among physicians and nurses. When using the KAP questionnaire, for specific areas, it was observed that all three domains, knowledge (p <0.01), attitude (p <0.01) and practice (p, 0.05) were modified after training. The results of this study indicate that the use of interactive tele-education for training professionals in primary care is feasible and effective. Further studies with more robust samples should be implemented to confirm these results.
