The knowledge of the costs of an offshore aquaculture project is useful to determine the economic viability of each operation. Furthermore, information on the production costs, allows the research targeting in order to reduce these costs and increase the profitability. The financial performance of the cobia´s farming was evaluated using data from Cação de escamas project, developed by Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco [UFRPE], to compare the performance, regarded on the 20-yr internal rate of return (IRR) and net present value based on different assumptions regarding productivity 5kg/m³ - (P5), 10kg/m³ - (P10) e 15kg/m³ - (P15); fish survival rates (50, 70 e 90%) and selling prices (7; 11 and 15 BRL per kg). The baseline model that used the [P10] scenario, P 10 and market prices of 15.00 BRL had a high probability of financial success. In this scenario the IRR was 17%, the net present value was 5.931,081 BRL, the cost of production of 1.0 kg was 11.48 BRL and payback was around 5 years. When the baseline model used the [P15] scenario, selling price 15.00 BRL, the IRR was 36%, net present value was 27.071,978 BRL cost of production of 1.0 kg was 9.46 BRL and payback was 2,78 years. Regarding the information above, it was concluded that the project becomes more attractive for the production scale increasing.
