Resumo: Our Master’s research utilizes the theoretical framework of French Semiotics to analyze “The Little Dust-Brown Donkey” and “Conversation Among Oxen,” tales by Guimarães Rosa. The aim of this paper is to analyze the construction of the animal-actor in both tales; for this purpose, we observed the enunciator’s artifices used to create a fiduciary contract with the enunciatee, the relationships between the human and animal actors, and the way the meaning effect of truth is developed in Rosa’s speech. We tried to demonstrate how the apprehension of the figures and their reiterations, the figurative isotopies, lead to the themes. We studied the way in which animal-actors and the narrative course constitute a simulacrum of the natural world; we described their trajectory and revealed how they changed from subject of do into subject of state. Methodologically, after detecting the theoretical concepts explored, the paper was divided into four chapters. In the first one, the Semiotic theory of Greimas, which was applied to the texts, is presented. The second chapter brings critical bibliography about the author Guimarães Rosa, in which we highlight the characteristics of his work which are interesting to our corpus analysis. The third chapter analyzes the tale " The Little Dust-Brown Donkey” and the fourth “Conversation Among Oxen” are component of Sagarana, with the purpose of observing the similarity between them. Some results which were achieved: by the procedures of “unclutch” and “clutch”, by the figurativization and thematization, it was noticed that Rosa’s enunciator brings the natural universe close to the human, solidifying the belief in the enunciatee that his stories, in analogy with the fables, create the meaning effect of human truth. The tone of orality of the several micro-narratives that permeate the horseback riders’ trip in “The Little Dust-Brown Donkey” corroborates the meaning effects presented in the main narrative. The enunciatee, noticing the textual proximity to the natural world, establishes a contract with the enunciator by the belief, by the veridiction formed. Guimarães Rosa settles his stories in the sertão of Minas Gerais, where the nature is not mere scenery for the stories, since, in this universe, through pantheism, animal, human and beast form a unity in which rationality is relative, not inherent in man, but in the one that best understands the nature flow.
