Aprendizagem empreendedora na prática: fragmentos do conhecimento estético-sensível na trajetória de vida de empreendedores fundadores de startups

Resumo: The field of entrepreneurship is not new and has been explored through different perspectives. At the end of the eighties, a new possibility allowed this theme to be analyzed as a dynamic process. This change has led researchers to question how 'becoming' entrepreneurial. Given this, assumptions of the theories about entrepreneurship and learning were associated, inaugurating a new theme, called Entrepreneurial Learning (EL). Thus, to find out how studies on this topic are being conducted on the national and international scene, it was carried out a systematic literature review in different academic databases about the production of knowledge. This study, conducted from a historical perspective, revealed the possibilities of research not yet explored, especially regarding the development of empirical approaches on entrepreneurial learning at the national level. Thus, after conducting a historical review of the emergence of Entrepreneurial Learning and describing how its development occurred by pointing out the different perspectives employed, this doctoral thesis suggests that the social practice approach be used as a theoreticalmethodological lens for the study of EL. Hence, as a reflection on how the entrepreneurial learning process occurs in practice, this thesis also aims to present an argument that reveals the indissolubility between practice and learning and to propose a methodological set in the empirical investigation of entrepreneurial learning by through this theoretical approach. For this, also through a historical review, it was pointed out the contextualization about the scenario that favored this new look on the practice and made possible the emergence of the theoretical bases dedicated to studying it. Thus, arguments are presented to emphasize the direct and close connection between the conception of practice and learning, as a mutual, equivalent and constitutive relationship is established since learning constitutes and is constituted through various social practices. After arguing that practices are the loci of learning, as it is built when involvement in practice takes place, once mind and body, knowing and known, feelings and emotions, understanding and knowledge become intertwined, it is noteworthy that although while senses are recognized as relevant to learning in organizations, entrepreneurial learning’ researchers need to explore how the aesthetic and sensorial aspects are involved in this process. Thus, based on the concepts of Knowing in Practice, Aesthetic Knowledge, and Sensible Knowledge, hitherto used especially in organizational studies, it was explored how entrepreneurial learning unfolds over the course of the life of startup founders. Methodologically, within a qualitative and interpretative approach, Life History was used as a guiding strategy and data gathering method. Additionally, aiming to delimit the investigation of entrepreneurs’ experiences, semi-structured interviews were conducted focusing on thematic stories. To data analysis, two interconnected strategies were used – narrative analysis and abductive method. Thereby, from life history and life stories of the startup founding entrepreneurs, it was possible to unveil previous entrepreneurial learning processes that occurred in their lives even before they became involved in an entrepreneurial practice. This was possible because results allowed the identification of entrepreneurs' involvement in a texture of social practices and the use of perceptive-sensorial faculties - sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste, and aesthetic judgment during the learning process. The involvement in different practices points to entrepreneurs' life trajectories as a continuous learning process, in which, fragments of unconventional forms of knowledge (aesthetic and sensible) are revealed since they mediate this process. Therefore, the main contribution of this thesis is to promote a new understanding of the situated nature of entrepreneurial learning as a process that begins even before the current entrepreneurial action. Methodologically, the research suggests a path that may contribute to the formation of a research agenda in the Brazilian context regarding research related to the learning process of entrepreneurs in different areas.

No final da década de oitenta, uma nova possibilidade oportunizou que o tema fosse analisado enquanto um processo dinâmico. Essa mudança levou os pesquisadores a questionar de que maneira ocorre o ‘tornar-se’ empreendedor. Diante disso, aproximaram-se os pressupostos das teorias sobre empreendedorismo e da aprendizagem, inaugurando uma nova temática, denominada de Aprendizagem Empreendedora (AE). Dessa maneira, para descobrir como estão sendo conduzidos os estudos sobre esse tema no cenário nacional e internacional, realizou-se nessa tese de doutorado o levantamento sistemático da produção de conhecimento em diferentes bases acadêmicas de dados. Este estudo, realizado dentro de uma perspectiva histórica, apontou as possibilidades de pesquisas ainda não exploradas, principalmente no que se refere ao desenvolvimento de aproximações empíricas sobre a aprendizagem empreendedora na esfera nacional. Assim, após realizar um resgate histórico do surgimento da Aprendizagem Empreendedora e descrever como ocorreu o seu desenvolvimento ao apontar as diferentes perspectivas empregadas, esta tese de doutorado sugere que a abordagem da prática social seja utilizada como lente teórico-metodológica para o estudo da AE. A aprendizagem, como tema de investigação, tem sido explorada pelas perspectivas cognitiva, experiencial e social e, mais recentemente, a partir da prática. Dessa forma, em se tratando de uma reflexão sobre como ocorre o processo da aprendizagem empreendedora na prática, esta tese objetiva também a apresentar a argumentação que revele a indissolubilidade entre a prática e a aprendizagem, e propor um conjunto metodológico na investigação empírica da aprendizagem empreendedora por meio dessa abordagem teórica. Para isso, foi realizada, também por meio do resgate histórico, a contextualização sobre o cenário que favoreceu esse novo olhar sobre a prática e possibilitou o surgimento das bases teóricas que se dedicam em estudá-la. Assim, são apresentados argumentos que realçam a conexão direta e estreita entre a concepção de prática e de aprendizagem, na medida em que se estabelece uma relação mútua, equivalente e de constituição, pois a aprendizagem constitui e se constitui por meio de diversas práticas sociais. Após a argumentação que as práticas são o loci da aprendizagem, pois construída como participação na prática, na medida em que, mente e corpo, conhecedor e conhecido, sentimentos e emoções, entendimento e conhecimento se tornam entrelaçados, destaca-se que, embora os sentidos sejam reconhecidos como relevantes para a aprendizagem nas organizações, pesquisadores da aprendizagem empreendedora precisam explorar os aspectos estéticos e sensoriais envolvidos no processo. Dessa maneira, a partir dos conceitos de Knowing in Practice, Conhecimento Estético e Conhecimento Sensível, até então utilizados especialmente nos estudos organizacionais, foi explorado como a aprendizagem empreendedora se desenrola ao longo do tempo, no decorrer da vida de fundadores de startups. Metodologicamente, dentro de uma abordagem qualitativa e interpretativa, a História de Vida foi utilizada como estratégia orientadora e método de coleta de dados. Adicionalmente, visando delimitar a investigação das experiências dos empreendedores, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com foco em histórias temáticas. Para analisar os dados, foram utilizadas duas estratégias interconectadas – a análise narrativa e o método abdutivo. A partir da história e das histórias da vida de empreendedores fundadores de startups, foi possível desvendar processos de aprendizagem que ocorreram em suas vidas mesmo antes deles se envolverem em uma prática empreendedora. Os resultados permitiram a identificação do envolvimento dos empreendedores com uma textura de práticas sociais e a utilização das faculdades perceptivo-sensoriais – visão, audição, olfato, tato e paladar, e o julgamento estético no decorrer do processo de aprendizado. O envolvimento em diferentes práticas aponta a trajetória de vida dos empreendedores como um contínuo processo de aprendizado, no qual são revelados fragmentos de formas não convencionais de conhecimento (estético e sensível) que empreendedores desenvolvem ao longo da trajetória de sua vida e que mediam o processo de aprendizagem. A principal contribuição dessa tese é promover um novo entendimento sobre a natureza situada da aprendizagem empreendedora como um processo iniciado antes mesmo da efetiva ação empreendedora.
