Resumo: Starting from the understanding that the official histories of Brazilian design have been built upon predominantly white and Eurocentric references, this study aims to reconstruct the trajectory of Luiz Carlos Gá, a Black graphic designer, activist, and educator, whose contributions remain marginalized in both academic and professional spheres. Through a qualitative approach, the research combines bibliographic review, interviews with people close to the biographical subject, and documentary analysis of archives and graphic records. The investigation seeks to understand how Gá’s work, inseparable from political activism, teaching, and design practice, challenges the field’s exclusionary structures and contributes to the valorization of Afro-Brazilian culture. The results highlight the importance of making Black trajectories visible, as they have often been erased from formal curricula and institutional memory, despite playing a key role in building epistemic alternatives and more plural narratives. As a further development, this work proposes to contribute to future research on Black representation in design and to the strengthening of antiracist practices in education and design historiography

Por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa, a pesquisa combinou levantamento bibliográfico, entrevistas com pessoas próximas ao biografado e análise documental de arquivos e registros gráficos. A investigação buscou compreender como a atuação de Gá, indissociável entre militância política, docência e prática de design, tensiona as estruturas excludentes do campo e contribui para a valorização da cultura afro-brasileira. Os resultados apontam para a importância de visibilizar trajetórias negras que, embora apagadas dos currículos formais e da memória institucional do design, desempenham papel fundamental na construção de alternativas epistêmicas e narrativas mais plurais.
