A música pode levar pessoas a se inspirarem e expressarem seu louvor a Deus com todos os seus anseios e esperança. O trabalho tem como objetivo mostrar como a igreja cristã, desde as primeiras comunidades cristãs, passando pela Reforma Luterana, até a contemporaneidade, tem se utilizado do canto para louvar a Deus e exercitar a espiritualidade. Através de uma pesquisa de campo, social – qualitativa e descritiva, com amostragem aleatória simples, junto a uma paróquia da IECLB –, verifica-se que o culto permanece como centro da comunidade cristã e o canto auxilia no louvor a Deus e na prática da espiritualidade. O culto cristão, além dos diversos grupos da comunidade, faz do canto uma forma de expressão da identidade e fé cristã e da espiritualidade de forma comunitária. Conclui-se que a espiritualidade é manifestada através do canto, como bem evidencia a história do povo de Deus, desde as primeiras comunidades até a contemporaneidade.The theme of this paper is the congregational singing used in the Christian churches as an exercise in spirituality, in the most varied forms of expression and executioin. Music can lead people to be inspired and express their praise to God with all their longings and hope. The goal of this paper is to show how the Christian church, from the first Christian communities, passing through the Lutheran Reformation, up to current times, have used singing to praise God and exercise spirituality. Through social-qualitative and descriptive field research with simple random sampling at a parish of the IECLB one can verify that the worship service continues to be the center of the Christian congregation and singing helps in praising God and in the practice of spirituality. Christian worship, besides the various groups of the congregation, makes of singing a way of expressing identity.the Christian faith and spirituality in a congregational way.
