Este estudo teve por objetivo compreender como se dá a formação do vínculo afetivo entre recém-nascidos prematuros internados em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal e seus pais. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, exploratória de cunho qualitativo. Os participantes do estudo foram 10 pais e 17 mães de recém-nascidos prematuros internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal de um Hospital no sul do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados entre 2022-2023, através de entrevistas e examinados a partir da Análise Temática. Conforme a resolução 510/2016, respeitaram-se os princípios éticos em pesquisas. O projeto teve a aprovação do Comitê de Ética, sob parecer CAAE 53883521.9.0000.5324. As participantes apresentaram como justificativas para internação da criança na Unidade Neonatal o fato de apresentarem uma gestação de alto risco devido à pré-eclâmpsia, gestação múltipla ou estar com idade considerada de risco para gestar; enfrentarem os desfechos decorrentes da gestação ao estarem com infecção do trato urinário, terem contraído COVID-19 ou apresentaram condições associadas à gravidez. Quanto ao exercício a maternidade/paternidade em ambiente intensivo neonatal verificou-se que os pais desconheciam o ambiente, viram o(a) filho(a) pela primeira vez dentro da uma Unidade, temeram pela perda do(a) filho(a) pela condição clínica e ficaram com o(a) filho(a) internado muito tempo. Alguns saíram da UTIN, mas continuaram com o filho hospitalizado ou vivenciaram o luto de um filho enquanto o outro se recuperava na unidade neonatal. Como estratégias para a construção do vínculo afetivo com a criança citaram a vivência do Método Canguru, permanecerem na unidade e realizarem cuidados com o(a) filho(a), criarem laços afetivos com a equipe de saúde e se fortalecerem através da fé. Como fatores que facilitaram a construção do vínculo com a criança citaram a importância do acolhimento para o exercício da paternidade e maternidade no setor ao receberem um cuidado acolhedor da equipe multiprofissional, terem uma rede de apoio fortalecedora e manterem o vínculo com a equipe após a alta hospitalar. Identificaram, também, fragilidades nas relações afetivas que dificultaram o processo de vinculação afetiva entre os pais, mães e seus filhos, pois se sentiram distantes do neonato pelas dificuldades geradas no ambiente neonatal. Não se sentiram acolhidos pela equipe de saúde no Centro Obstétrico (CO) e na Unidade Neonatal, enfrentaram adversidades na Maternidade, perceberam a importância do apoio do pai e os reflexos dessa ausência e enfrentaram dificuldades impostas pela pandemia. Como consequências do nascimento prematuro na formação do vínculo afetivo referiram ter ressignificado a experiência parental, consideraram o vínculo familiar fortalecido após essa experiência, identificaram singularidades decorrentes do nascimento prematuro e reconheceram fraquezas e fortalezas da maternidade prematura. O conhecimento trazido à tona a partir deste estudo poderá contribuir para que os profissionais de enfermagem elaborem estratégias efetivas de auxílio no processo de vinculação afetiva entre pais e recém-nascidos prematuros, por meio do uso da comunicação efetiva e escuta atenta como instrumentos no processo de cuidar.The birth of premature children is a reality that’s becoming increasingly frequent and constitutes a relevant public health question. This study had the objective of understanding how the bond between premature newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and their parents is formed. It’s a descriptive exploratory research of qualitative nature. The participants were 10 fathers and 17 mothers of newborn prematures hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in the south of Brazil. The data was collected between 2022 and 2023, through interviews and examined using Thematic Analysis. According to resolution 510/2016, ethical principles in research were respected. The project was approved by the Ethics Committee, under CAAE opinion 53883521.9.0000.5324. The participants presented as justifications for admitting the child to the Neonatal Unity the fact that they had a high-risk pregnancy due to pre-eclampsia; multiple pregnancies; age considered at risk for pregnancy; facing the outcomes of pregnancy while having an urinary tract infection; contracting COVID- 19 or conditions associated with pregnancy. Regarding the exercise of motherhood/fatherhood in the neonatal intensive environment, it was observed that the fathers were unfamiliar with the environment, saw the baby for the first time inside the Unity, feared the loss of the baby due to the clinical condition and stayed with the hospitalized child for a long time. Some left the NICU, but stayed with the hospitalized child or experienced grief for another child while one recovered in the neonatal unit. As strategies for the construction of an affective bond with child the following were cited: the Kangaroo Care method, the permanence in the unity along with providing care for the child, creating affective bonds with the healthcare crew and maintaining strength through faith. As factors that facilitated the construction of the bond with the child, were cited the importance of welcoming the exercise of fatherhood and motherhood in the unity, receiving inviting care from the multi professional team, having a support network and maintaining the bond with the team after being discharged. Were also identified fragilities in the affective relationships that made the process of bonding between mothers, fathers and children harder, since they felt distanced from the neonate due to the difficulties generated in the neonatal environment. Didn’t feel welcomed by the healthcare team in the Obstetrics Centre (OC) and in the Neonatal Unity, faced adversities in the Maternity Ward, realized the importance of the father’s support and the reflexes of that absence and faced difficulties imposed by the pandemic. As consequences from the premature birth in the formation of the affective bond, they referred to giving new meaning to the parental experience, considering the familiar bond stronger after the experience, identifying singularities that came from the premature birth and recognizing the weaknesses and strengths of premature motherhood. The knowledge generated by this study will contribute to enabling nursing professionals to elaborate effective strategies in the process of affective bonding between parents and premature newborns, through the use of effective communication and attentive listening as instruments in the process of caring, promoting new projects and research and providing academics with a reflexion on neonatal experiences to both professionals and parents.El nacimiento de niños prematuros es una realidad que se está volviendo cada vez más frecuente y constituye una cuestión relevante de salud pública. Se trata de una investigación exploratoria descriptiva de naturaleza cualitativa. Los participantes fueron 10 padres y 17 madres de prematuros recién nacidos hospitalizados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales de un hospital en el sur de Brasil. Los datos se recopilaron entre 2022 y 2023 mediante entrevistas y se examinarón mediante el Análisis Temático. Según la resolución 510/2016 se respetaron los principios éticos en la investigación. El proyecto fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética, bajo dictamen CAAE 53883521.9.0000.5324. Las participantes presentaron como justificación para el ingreso del niño a la Unidad Neonatal el hecho de tener un embarazo de alto riesgo por preeclampsia; embarazos múltiples; edad considerada de riesgo para el embarazo; enfrentamiento de los resultados del embarazo mientras se tiene una infección del tracto urinario; contraer COVID-19 o condiciones asociadas con el embarazo. En cuanto al ejercicio de la maternidad/paternidad en el entorno neonatal intensivo, se observó que los padres estaban poco familiarizados con el entorno. Vieron al bebé por primera vez dentro de la Unidad, temían la pérdida del bebé debido a la condición clínica y permanecían con el niño hospitalizado durante mucho tiempo. Algunos salieron de la UCIN, pero se quedaron con el niño hospitalizado o experimentaron dolor por otro niño mientras uno se recuperaba en la unidad neonatal. Como estrategias para la construcción de un vínculo afectivo con el niño, se mencionaron: el método Madre Canguro, la permanencia en la unidad junto con el cuidado del niño, la creación de vínculos afectivos con el equipo de salud y mantener la fuerza a través de la fe. Como factores que facilitaron la construcción del vínculo con el niño, se mencionaron la importancia de acoger el ejercicio de la paternidad y la maternidad en la unidad, recibir cuidados acogedores del equipo multiprofesional, tener una red de apoyo y mantener el vínculo con el equipo después del alta. También se identificaron fragilidades en las relaciones afectivas que dificultaron el proceso de vinculación entre madres, padres e hijos, ya que se sentían distanciados del neonato debido a las dificultades generadas en el entorno neonatal. No se sentían bienvenidos por el equipo de salud en el Centro Obstétrico (CO) y en la Unidad Neonatal, enfrentaron adversidades en la Sala de Maternidad, comprendieron la importancia del apoyo del padre y las repercusiones de esa ausencia y enfrentaron dificultades impuestas por la pandemia. Como consecuencias del nacimiento prematuro en la formación del vínculo afectivo, se refirieron a dar nuevo significado a la experiencia parental, considerar el vínculo familiar más fuerte después de la experiencia, identificar singularidades que surgieron del nacimiento prematuro y reconocer las debilidades y fortalezas de la maternidad prematura.
