A pesquisa tem como objetivo geral: Pesquisar as contribuições da Proficiência Leitora para a compreensão do conceito de Fração no 5o ano do Ensino Fundamental, e como metodologia a pesquisa-ação, destacando a interação da pesquisadora com o grupo de estudantes, desenvolvida por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa. A leitura apresenta inúmeras possibilidades quanto à construção do conhecimento. Suas contribuições são bastante claras dentro do processo de aprendizagem, principalmente no que se refere ao uso da literatura infantil como atividade que envolve e promove o encantamento e o aprimoramento da Proficiência Leitora, habilidade extremamente necessária para a estruturação e consolidação das aprendizagens. Partindo desta afirmação, busca-se evidenciar a relevância da literatura infantil e da Proficiência Leitora dentro da construção de saberes matemáticos no 5o ano do Ensino Fundamental, dando ênfase ao ensino de Frações. Fundamentada nos estudos envolvendo, principalmente, Ana Cristina Rangel, Adair Nacarato, Kátia Smole, Magda Soares, Nílson José Machado, Sérgio Lorenzato e Terezinha Nunes, a pesquisa explora a relação entre a Proficiência Leitora, a literatura infantil e o entendimento dos conceitos matemáticos, destacando como as habilidades de fluência, entendimento, análise e criticidade podem influenciar na resolução de situações matemáticas envolvendo Frações. Ao integrar a literatura infantil ao ensino de Matemática, a pesquisa desvela que a melhoria da Proficiência Leitora pode resultar em uma compreensão mais profunda e relevante dos conceitos matemáticos, priorizando neste estudo, a aprendizagem referente às noções de Frações. Ressaltando as contribuições entre Proficiência Leitora, Matemática e literatura infantil, estruturou-se o Produto Educacional, que é um livro de literatura infantil, e tem como título: <Melissa e Theodoro desbravando o misterioso universo das Frações=. Por meio da contação da história do Produto Educacional, foi possível perceber o quanto a literatura infantil contribui para o desenvolvimento da Proficiência Leitora, e o quanto a Proficiência Leitora auxilia na construção de saberes matemáticos.This study was carried out within the scope of the Graduate Program in Exact Sciences Teaching at the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG, and is entitled: <Between letters and numbers: the role of Reading Proficiency in the construction of the concept of Fraction in the 5th year of Elementary School=. The general aim of the research is to investigate the contributions of Reading Proficiency to understanding the concept of Fraction in the 5th year of Primary School. The methodology is action research, highlighting the interaction between the researcher and the group of students, developed using a qualitative approach. Reading offers countless possibilities for building knowledge. Its contributions are quite clear within the learning process, especially with regard to the use of children's literature as an activity that involves and promotes enchantment and the improvement of reading proficiency, an extremely necessary skill for structuring and consolidating learning. Based on this statement, the aim is to highlight the relevance of children's literature and Reading Proficiency in the construction of mathematical knowledge in the 5th year of elementary school, with an emphasis on the teaching of Fractions. Based on studies mainly involving Ana Cristina Rangel, Adair Nacarato, Kátia Smole, Magda Soares, Nílson José Machado, Sérgio Lorenzato and Terezinha Nunes, the research explores the relationship between Reading Proficiency, children's literature and the understanding of mathematical concepts, highlighting how the skills of fluency, understanding, analysis and criticality can influence the resolution of mathematical situations involving Fractions. By integrating children's literature into mathematics teaching, the research reveals that improving reading proficiency can result in a deeper and more relevant understanding of mathematical concepts, prioritizing, in this study, learning about fractions. Highlighting the contributions between Reading Proficiency, Mathematics and children's literature, the Educational Product was structured as a children's literature book, entitled <Melissa and Theodoro exploring the mysterious universe of Fractions=.
