Resumo: | Tourism, for the United Nations (UN), is a transversal activity capable of promoting each of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) proposed for 2030. In extension to this global premise, this dissertation has the objective of understanding the perspectives of the population residing in Imbé-RS regarding the influence of tourism in this coastal town that is part of the “Aglomeração Urbana do Litoral Norte – AULINOR” (Urban Agglomeration of the North Coast). The work used a territorial and multidimensional approach to development and was supported by the concepts of territorialities and second home tourism. As an exploratory and descriptive case study, it involved an investigation into the historical-cultural process of creation and geographical aspects of the municipality, through bibliographic and documentary review, and the generation of a research questionnaire. This research questionnaire, which was adapted from a survey used in an international observatory, was subjected to evaluation by a panel of experts and refined after a test study, before being applied to the households using probabilistic sampling. The fieldwork preceded and followed the high tourist summer season of 2023/2024, reaching a representative sample of 394 residents in census sectors across 18 neighborhoods. The qualitative and quantitative data analysis revealed that 91.6% of respondents were over 35 years old, 74.4% settled in Imbé before 2020, and 70.1% resided in the Porto Alegre metropolitan area (RMPA) before migrating to Imbé, with 55.8% being female, 47% retired or pensioners, and only 6.9% tourism workers. Of the total, 76.1% (300/394) are permanent residents, and within these, 89.3% live in a single household (268/300); while 23.9% (94/394) live part of the year in Imbé, in turn, within these, 93.3% live in more than one household. The majority of the respondents agree that tourism: increases the buildup of garbage, noise and air pollution (88.8%) or harms the supply of drinking water, electricity, and telephone and internet signal (62.7%). The main motivation for living in Imbé were the pursuit of tranquility, quality of life, connection with friends, family and the landscape. Although quiet activities have been preferred, most residents seek for several visitors like the current one, followed by higher numbers in the next 10 years. Despite environmental, infrastructural and economic interferences that come with the local tourism model, the work concludes that, for the residents of Imbé, the exchange and sharing of their lived space with the tourists are considered sociocultural drivers, considering that a city is made of people living with people: 92.1% agree that tourism stirs and brightens the life routine of Imbe’s population. Therefore, if living in a resort town is an antidote to the metropolitan rhythm of live, and the coexistence between hosts and tourists, even if seasonal, works as a repellent to ostracism and stagnation, at an institutional level, the settlement of permanent tourists is an opportunity for income transfer that allows continuous investments in the municipality. |

TikaTextExtractionFilter on 2025-06-06T20:14:49Z (GMT).Extracted texttext/plain103070https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/01b9b9a6-a768-42fd-bb21-851014dcb734/downloada4ab693d18d9f3820e4ee8c3e13e291aMD53falseAnonymousREADTHUMBNAIL001211832.pdf.jpgWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.PDFBoxThumbnail on 2025-06-06T20:14:49Z (GMT).Generated Thumbnailimage/jpeg2906https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/97d6f57c-82ee-48a8-a908-f7602023d7a4/downloadceac66de285a90a2487af370bee529c5MD54falseAnonymousREADLICENSElicense.txtWritten by org.dspace.content.LicenseUtilstext/plain; Tourism, for the United Nations (UN), is a transversal activity capable of promoting each of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) proposed for 2030. |
