Resumo: The Pilates method is used empirically as physical exercise that improves posture. There is strong evidence in favor of its use for improving flexibility and balance, and also some evidence on improvement of muscle strength. However, benefits related to posture have not been proven. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate this issue. The aim of this study was to assess postural alignment in healthy adults, through postural assessment software SAPO before and after completion of first Pilates class, and after finishing a program of 16 classes. We obtained six angles in the sagital plane. The reference values for these angles was achieved through a systematic review study, which analyzed articles that used PAS/SAPO as an assessment tool in healthy adults. Thus, it was possible to obtain a standard angle for: horizontal alignment of the head (51.42 ± 4.87°), horizontal alignment of the pelvis (-12.26 ± 5.81°), hip angle (-6.40 ± 3.86°) and vertical alignment of the body (1.73 ± 0.94°). As none of the studies included in the review evaluated the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis, we can not get reference values for these angles. The subjects were also evaluated for the presence of pain/discomfort as well as its intensity. The data were analyzed using the R for Windows 3.0.1 and described as median and interquartilar range. It was considered the significance level of p <0.05. Linear mixed effects models were used to study the association of covariates and the outcomes studied. Comparing the periods before and after the first class, there was significant improvement for: horizontal alignment of the head/left (45 vs. 46.40°), the vertical alignment of the body/left (1.80 vs. 1.70o), thoracic kyphosis right and left, respectively (154,40 vs. 155,10o; 154,70 vs. 155,80o). When comparing the periods before the first class and after the program, significant improvement was observed for: horizontal alignment of the head right and left, respectively (43.10 vs. 44.10o, 43.20 vs. 47.20°), angle of the hip/right (- 3.90 vs. -6.20°), thoracic kyphosis right and left, respectively (154,40 vs. 157,40o; 153,40 vs. 156,90o), lumbar lordosis right and left, respectively (152.40 vs. 155.20°; 152.30 vs. 155.60°). The results of our study indicates that Pilates has positive effects on postural alignment, in addition to being a safe form of exercise.

The results of our study indicates that Pilates has positive effects on postural alignment, in addition to being a safe form of exercise.O método Pilates é utilizado empiricamente como exercício físico que melhora a postura. Existem fortes evidências a favor do seu uso para melhora da flexibilidade e do equilíbrio, e alguma também para melhora da força muscular. Contudo, benefícios relativos à postura ainda não foram comprovados. Sendo assim, é necessário que este tema seja investigado. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o alinhamento postural, em adultos saudáveis, através do software de avaliação postural SAPO, antes e após a realização da primeira aula do aluno, e após a realização de um programa de 16 aulas. Foram obtidos 6 ângulos através do plano sagital. O parâmetro de comparação para esses ângulos foi alcançado através de um estudo de revisão sistemática, no qual foram analisados artigos que utilizassem o SAPO como ferramenta de avaliação em adultos saudáveis. Assim, foi possível obter um padrão angular para: alinhamento horizontal da cabeça (51.42±4.87o), alinhamento horizontal da pelve (- 12.26±5.81o), ângulo do quadril (-6.40±3.86o) e inclinação anteroposterior do corpo (1.73±0.94o). Como nenhum dos estudos incluídos na revisão avaliaram a cifose torácica e a lordose lombar, não pode-se obter valores de referência para estes ângulos. Os indivíduos também foram avaliados em relação a presença de dor/desconforto, bem como sua intensidade. Os dados foram analisados pelo programa R para Windows 3.0.1 e descritos como mediana, e intervalo interquartilar. Foi considerado o nível de significância p < 0,05. Modelos lineares de efeitos mistos foram utilizados para estudar a associação das covariáveis com os desfechos estudados. Comparando os períodos pré e pós a primeira aula foi observada melhora significativa para: alinhamento horizontal da cabeça/esquerda (45 vs. 46,40o); inclinação anteroposterior do corpo/esquerda (1,80 vs. 1,70o); cifose torácica direita e esquerda, respectivamente (154,40 vs. 155,10o; 154,70 vs. 155,80o). Quando comparados os períodos anterior a primeira aula e após o programa, foi observada melhora significativa para: alinhamento horizontal da cabeça direito e esquerdo, respectivamente (43,10 vs. 44,10o; 43,20 vs. 47,20o); ângulo do quadril/direito (-3,90 vs. -6,20o); cifose torácica direita e esquerda, respectivamente (154,40 vs. 157,40o; 153,40 vs. 156,90o); lordose lombar direita e esquerda, respectivamente (152,40 vs. 155,20o; 152,30 vs. 155,60o). Os resultados do nosso estudo indicaram que o Pilates tem efeitos positivos no alinhamento postural, além de ser uma forma segura de exercício físico.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorSudeste-1application/pdfporCentro Universitário Augusto MottaPrograma de Pós-graduação em Ciências da ReabilitçãoBrasilCentro Universitário Augusto Mottahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPilatesposturaavaliaçãoFisioterapia e Terapia OcupacionalImpacto do método pilates no alinhamento postural em adultos avaliado por fotogrametria computadorizadainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisreponame:Repositório Comum do Brasil - Depositainstname:Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (Ibict)instacron:IBICTTEXT2013 Dissertação Bruna Krawczyk.pdf.txtWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.TikaTextExtractionFilter on 2025-06-06T20:18:04Z (GMT).Extracted texttext/plain102736https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/3223d5b4-43ee-411f-bce3-75b5965218c3/downloadf76effa7201a3b5e0241dec86a92f36dMD56falseAnonymousREADTHUMBNAIL2013 Dissertação Bruna Krawczyk.pdf.jpgWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.PDFBoxThumbnail on 2025-06-06T20:18:04Z (GMT).Generated Thumbnailimage/jpeg3031https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/f0739162-e5ee-4c83-873b-1762a2971e1d/download65e607d5c5a49e8dfa520093cc442bccMD57falseAnonymousREADLICENSElicense.txtWritten by org.dspace.content.LicenseUtilstext/plain;
