Resumo: Macauba is a sustainable alternative to overcome the global energy crisis, because in addition to its high oil production capacity, it produces a significant number of leaves that can serve as an agroenergetic and nutritional source for the exploitation system. However, the lack of studies on the influence of hydro-nutritional availability on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of this leaf biomass has prevented important advances and understandings in the technological management of this crop. The objective was, in an unprecedented way, to evaluate the influence of the edaphic environment on the characteristics of senescent leaf biomass of different macauba accessions and to identify the potential for using this biomass as biofuel or as a natural source of nutrient restitution/recycling. It was observed that the accumulation of senescent leaf biomass is influenced by the edaphic environment. Environments with high water and nutritional availability provided, annually, increases of up to 64% in the accumulation of biomass, in addition to higher remaining amounts of N, K, Ca, S and Zn. It was concluded that intensive macauba exploration systems have greater aptitude for energy exploration (121 GJ ha-1 year-1) than the extractive system. However, regardless of the cultivation system (intensive, semi-intensive or extractive, macauba senescent leaf biomass serves as a strategy for recycling nutrients and increasing the organic matter content in the environment, since it has the potential to recycle/return annually up to 46.2%, 5.7% and 5.5% of the accumulated amount of N, P and K, respectively.

Lodd. Ex Martius). Orientador: Leonardo Duarte Pimentel.
