This dissertation seeks to reflect on the role of information in food and nutritional security within a specific territory. The area studied is the city of Maricá, a municipality in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. Maricá has recently emerged on the Brazilian landscape as a city with enormous potential for social innovation, often cited as an example due to its advancements in social policies. However, despite this profile, research data reveals that there is still a high level of food insecurity in the municipality. It is known that access to food, within the concept of food and nutritional security, is a right that involves a system of food practices that promote health, respect cultural diversity, and are socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable. In addition to this diversity, the consumption of healthy food in the contemporary context involves a series of political and informational challenges. This work involves a case study, based on the mapping of actors related to food and nutritional security and a document review on the topic, with the aim of identifying a network of interactions, even if not recognized as such by the actors involved. It is believed that Information Science can contribute to the critical analysis of these documents by identifying patterns of information, exploring how these informational dynamics can influence the formulation and implementation of strategies to combat food insecurity.
