Resumo: | This working is regarding the development and characterization of a photonics-based radiofrequency (RF) amplifier, entitled PBRA. It takes advantage of the Four-wave Mixing nonlinear (FWM) effect, with the aim of providing RF gain for the fifth generation of cellular networks (5G) based on optical backhauls. The FWM effect is intensified by the use of a Highly Nonlinear Fiber (HNLF) with nonlinear coefficient ? = 28 W-1km-1. The RF gain is defined as the electrical power difference between the FWM product and conventional Radio over Fiber (RoF) system at the photodetector output. Experimental results demonstrate the PBRA applicability for the 5G potential frequency bands, such as 6, 28 and 38 GHz. A 27-dB gain has been obtained over an ultrawide range from 300 kHz to 50 GHz, besides linearity improvement compared to the conventional RoF system. Analyses of electrical and optical parameters, such as optical power, laser pump spacing, RF gain, signal-to-noise ratio, phase noise, Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR), noise figure and Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), have been exploited for the PBRA validation. Finally, an experimental thermal investigation from -10 to + 70?C of the amplifier operation has been carried out for validating its use under real conditions. |

Photonics-based RF Amplifier. O amplificador faz uso do efeito ?ptico n?o-linear mistura de quatro ondas (FWM ? Four-Wave Mixing), com a finalidade de prover ganho de RF em redes celulares de quinta gera??o (5G) baseadas em backhauls ?pticos. O FWM ? intensificado por meio do uso de uma fibra altamente n?o-linear (HNLF ? Highly Nonlinear Fiber) com coeficiente n?o-linear ? = 28 W-1km-1. Defini-se ganho de RF como sendo a diferen?a de pot?ncia el?trica na sa?da do fotodetector, considerando um mesmo n?vel ?ptico de pot?ncia de recep??o oriundo do produto de FWM e do sistema r?dio sobre fibra (RoF ? Radio over Fiber) convencional. Resultados experimentais demostram a aplicabilidade do PBRA para as faixas de frequ?ncias potenciais das redes 5G, tais como 6, 28 e 38 GHz. Obteve-se ganho de RF de at? 27 dB para uma ampla faixa de frequ?ncia de 300 kHz a 50 GHz, al?m da melhora na linearidade do sistema proposto, quando comparado com ao sistema RoF convencional. An?lises de par?metros ?pticos e el?tricos, incluindo pot?ncia, espa?amento entre os laseres de bombeamento, ganho de RF, rela??o sinal ru?do, ru?do de fase, SFDR (Spurious-Free Dynamic Range), figura de ru?do e magnitude de erro vetorial, foram exploradas para valida??o do PBRA.
