Resumo: | In warm shallow waters it is common the presence of an impulsive-like acoustic noise generated by snapping shrimps. This noise degrades the performance of underwater acoustic communication systems if the detectors of these systems are designed for the pure Gaussian noise channel. Aiming at improving the robustness of such systems against the snapping shrimp noise, this dissertation proposes a noise reduction technique based on convex optimization. The underwater acoustic communication system was simulated using the Matlab software tool, and the proposed noise reduction technique was treated by the CVX, which is a system for modeling and solving convex optimization problems, developed to work under the Matlab platform. Techniques for noise reduction based on nonlinear detectors were also considered for comparison purposes. The results unveil a significant performance improvement brought by the proposed technique in all considered scenarios, with no need for adaptation or knowledge of any parameter. When compared with the nonlinear detector, the proposed noise reduction has unveiled more efficacy in the high signal-to-noise regime, again for all considered scenarios. |

Este ru?do degrada o desempenho de sistemas de comunica??o ac?stica subaqu?tica se os detectores de tais sistemas s?o projetados apenas para canais com ru?do Gaussiano puro. Com objetivo de aumentar a robustez desses sistemas frente ao ru?do de camar?o de estalo, prop?e-se nesta disserta??o uma t?cnica de redu??o de ru?do impulsivo baseada em otimiza??o convexa. O sistema de comunica??o subaqu?tica foi simulado no Matlab, sendo que a t?cnica de redu??o de ru?do proposta foi tratada pelo CVX, que ? um sistema de modelagem e solu??o de problemas de otimiza??o convexa desenvolvido para o Matlab. T?cnicas de redu??o de ru?do impulsivo via detec??o n?o linear tamb?m foram analisadas para fins de compara??o. Os resultados mostram uma significativa melhoria no desempenho do sistema com a redu??o do ru?do realizada pela t?cnica proposta para todos os cen?rios considerados, sem a necessidade de estima??o ou adapta??o de qualquer par?metro.
