The theme of this project is the study of school processes and procedures that lead to student dropout in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the city of São Paulo. The high dropout rates found in this modality were the triggers for the discomfort and incentives for this study. The object of research is based on the central question of whether school processes and procedures can favor the dropout of EJA students in the city of São Paulo. The variables of the questions that materialize the object are the influences of public policies, didactic-methodological management of teachers and generational conflicts caused by the discrepancy in the age groups of students with the youthfulness of the classes. The theoretical-methodological paradigm that supported the analyses was Historical-Dialectical Materialism under the lens of Lucien Goldmann's Genetic Structuralism. The authors who supported the studies were Aranha (2006), José Eustáquio Romão (2011), José Rubens Lima Jardilino (2014), Leôncio Soares (2011), Maria Clara Di Piero (2005), Sérgio Haddad (2000) and Vanilda Paiva (2015). The research was from a qualitative and quantitative perspective, with content analysis, through the contributions of Bardin (1977) and the discourse analysis proposed by Verón (1980), in addition to the category of totality by Lucien Goldmann (1973). The research procedures were direct observation (Severino, 2018), the semi-structured and structured interview by Szimanski (2018); the surveys with analysis through the Likert Scale and the epistemological circle (Romão, 2006). The research universe involved three school units and a group called the EJA Observatory in Heliópolis. The research subjects were active and dropout students, teachers, managers and trainers of EJA in the city of São Paulo. At the end of the study, it was possible to identify the existence of processes and procedures within the school that favor the early exit of EJA students, that is, that promote “dropout”. It is expected that this study can contribute to the recognition of the demands of the theme within the school environment, a space in which the teaching and management teams have the conditions for direct intervention.
