Resumo: The research objective was to adapt and validate a model focused on generic strategies for managing people, control and commitment (ALBUQUERQUE, 1999), for the educational context of high school. In Brazilian literature Albuquerque (1999) became a classic as well as the generic strategies of people, improving the concept of these management strategies through control or involvement of people, based in Walton (1985). The research design was exploratory, with the qualitative method and inductive research, grounded in the perspective of reality constructed by individuals interacting with their social worlds, with the primary concern to understand the phenomenon under study, from the perspective of strategy actors. For the field study four public high schools in the State of S??o Paulo, located on the east side of S??o Paulo were selected. Two data collection instruments were used: interview and questionnaire. Under the temporal perspective the data collection was cross-sectional, that is, when the survey occurred in April and May 2013. The data analysis was then performed by means of content analysis (BARDIN, 1971). The results showed that the directors consider that the managing people model aiming commitment is adopted in schools. It is noticed that these results support the legislation on education. The results showed that the officers responded according to the model of managing people facing commitment. But there are still contradictions between theory and practice. We note that the principles of democratic governance are being incorporated into the day to day schools

Para tanto, adotou-se o modelo delineado por Albuquerque (1999) sobre estrat??gias gen??ricas de pessoas, aprimorando o conceito destas estrat??gias de gest??o, por meio de controle ou de comprometimento de pessoas, com base nos trabalhos de Walton (1985). O delineamento da pesquisa foi explorat??rio, com m??todo qualitativo, com estrat??gia de pesquisa indutiva, firmada na ??tica da realidade constru??da pelos indiv??duos interagindo em seus mundos sociais, com a preocupa????o b??sica de entender o fen??meno em estudo, sob a perspectiva dos atores. Para tanto, foram selecionadas quatro escolas de Ensino M??dio da Rede Estadual de S??o Paulo, situadas na zona leste da cidade de S??o Paulo. Dois instrumentos de coleta de dados foram adotados: entrevista e question??rio. Sob a perspectiva temporal a coleta de dados foi transversal, ou seja, ocorreu no momento da pesquisa, em abril e maio de 2013. A an??lise dos dados coletados foi realizada em seguida, por meio de an??lise de conte??do (BARDIN, 1971). Os resultados evidenciaram que os diretores responderam de acordo com o modelo de gest??o de pessoas voltado para o comprometimento. Por??m ainda h?? contradi????es entre a teoria e a pr??tica.
