Resumo: This dissertation focuses on analyzing the influence of resource slack on business performance and the promotion of innovation. This topic is extremely important, considering the current business scenario, marked by constant challenges and market dynamics. The research addresses two complementary fronts: the evolution of research on resource slack in business performance (Study 1) and in the promotion of innovation (Study 2). In Study 1, we examined the evolution of the topic of resource slack and business performance through a bibliometric approach, highlighting the inconsistency of the results found in the literature. Furthermore, we explore how different types of slack affect strategic decisions and innovation performance in companies. The findings reveal that effective time off management is essential to optimize performance and that this relationship is mediated by specific variables. In Study 2, we investigated how resource slack influences innovation in companies, considering the economic situation of the country where they are located through a meta-analysis with moderation effects. In both studies, the analyzes advance the understanding of the complex dynamics that involve resource slack. The contributions of this dissertation are diverse. First, we provide a comprehensive and up-to-date view of the impact of resource slack on business performance and innovation, considering disruptive scenarios such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, we identify research gaps, such as the need to further explore the relationship between slack and strategic decision making, as well as the limits of resource slack. In short, this dissertation offers valuable insights for managers, researchers and professionals seeking to understand how resource slack can be a strategic tool to boost business performance and foster innovation in a constantly evolving business environment. Its findings have the potential to inform management practices and guide future investigations in this critical area of study.

Este tema é de suma importância, considerando o cenário atual de negócios, marcado por desafios constantes e dinâmicas de mercado. A pesquisa aborda duas frentes complementares: a evolução da pesquisa sobre folga de recursos no desempenho empresarial (Estudo 1) e na promoção da inovação (Estudo 2). No Estudo 1, examinamos a evolução do tema folga de recursos e o desempenho empresarial através de uma abordagem bibliométrica, destacando a inconsistência dos resultados encontrados na literatura. Além disso, exploramos como diferentes tipos de folga afetam as decisões estratégicas e o desempenho de inovação em empresas. Os achados revelam que a gestão eficaz da folga é essencial para otimizar o desempenho e que essa relação é mediada por variáveis específicas. No Estudo 2, investigamos como a folga de recursos influencia a inovação nas empresas, considerando o aspecto de situação econômica do país onde estão posicionadas através de uma meta análise com efeitos de moderação. Em ambos os estudos, as análises avançam na compreensão das dinâmicas complexas que envolvem a folga de recursos. As contribuições desta dissertação são diversas. Primeiramente, fornecemos uma visão abrangente e atualizada sobre o impacto da folga de recursos no desempenho empresarial e na inovação, considerando cenários disruptivos, como a pandemia de COVID-19. Além disso, identificamos lacunas de pesquisa, como a necessidade de explorar mais profundamente a relação entre a folga e a tomada de decisão estratégica, bem como os limites da folga de recursos. Em suma, esta dissertação oferece insights valiosos para gestores, pesquisadores e profissionais que buscam compreender como a folga de recursos pode ser uma ferramenta estratégica para impulsionar o desempenho empresarial e fomentar a inovação em um ambiente de negócios em constante evolução.
