Resumo: This research proposes to think about the education as a process of formation of the identity of the human being based on faith. Our objective is to understand and analyze Christian Education and the Catechumenate based on the book The Instruction of the Catechumens of Augustine, written around 405 AD. Christian education is an old concern, and has been developed by great thinkers in the Christian tradition. One of these is Augustine, the great systematizer of Patristic. This way, the research is structured in three chapters. In the first chapter, the influences of the ancient world are recovered for the construction of the notion of Christian education, its relation with the Greco-Roman cultures, with the biblical world and the flourishing of the Christian culture that will culminate in Patristic. In the second chapter we get into the life and thinking of Augustine about the Catechumenate and its importance for Christian formation, based on the book The Instruction of Catechumens. In the third and last chapter, the remnants of the Old Catechumenate, in its general aspects, and the indications of Saint Augustine in current catechumenal practicing are observed

Nosso objetivo é compreender e Analisar a Educação Cristã e o Catecumenato a partir da obra A Instrução dos Catecúmenos de Agostinho, escrita por volta do ano 405 Dc. A educação cristã é uma preocupação antiga, e foi tratada por grandes pensadores da tradição cristã. Um destes é Agostinho, o grande sistematizador da Patrística. Assim, a pesquisa é estruturada em três capítulos. No primeiro capítulo é recuperada a influência do mundo antigo para a construção da noção de educação cristã, sua relação com as culturas greco-romanas, com o mundo bíblico e o florescer da cultura cristã que desembocarão na Patrística. No segundo capítulo adentramos na vida e o pensamento de Santo Agostinho sobre o Catecumenato e sua importância para a formação cristã a partir da obra A Instrução dos Catecúmenos.
