Prophecy and Dialogue express the pastoral action of the Diocese of Goiás, within the time span from 1967 to 1998, the period in which Tomás Balduíno was Bishop. This analysis is made from a socio-cultural viewpoint. For this reason the text is divided into three chapters in an effort to integrate the theoretical reference, marxism and its conception of equality; the internal action of the church, religion of the people and gender; its action in the world, especially its action with the countrymen. The first chapter treats especifically the question of equality since it is the key idea which runs through the analysis. Prophecy and Dialogue are the characteristics of the new model of church, implanted during the period mentioned above, which seeks the instalation of equality. It is thorougt this conception that we attempt to define the marxist proposal of equality which is taken up by Liberation Theology and which the Basic Christian Communities, and more especially the Diocese of Goiás tries to realize in its life and action in the world. The second chapter shows the internal relations within the Diocese, which by means of a prophetic posture preaches equality, justice and fraternity. Prophecy and Dialogue represent a revolution in relation to church structure. There it is verifiable how the relations of dialogue happen in relation to the religion of the people and gender; within these two aspects of the life of this new model of church are contained its option and new structure. Here we try to ascertain the presence or not of an egalitarian model and structure. The third chapter returns to the social action of the Diocese. The ideal of the new church model is an egalitarian society. In this context we analyze the options, the concrete actions of this church, especially in relation to the countrymen, because it is in this area that she concentrated her action. There the conflicts, the challenges, the struggles and the conquests of this daring journey clearly appear, seeking to verify if the ideal of equality is taken into account and how this ideal is lived in the pilgrin church. The hypothesis of the real apreciation of the layperson is the extent to which the internal structure of the church is transformed and the extent to which is sought a transformation of society, is really true. The Diocese within the organizational limits of the Catholic Church, represents a significant advance.
