Environmental preservation occupies central position in discussions on sustainability in the country and the world. Thus, the subject under study comprises mainly the legal issue that regulates the practice of preservation and objectively analyze how the system treats the institutes of the Forest Code of 1965 - Legal Reserve Forest and Permanent Preservation Areas - to demonstrate the effectiveness of these institutes for the protection and preservation of the environment in Brazil. Also, want to understand the historical context and the importance or relevance of these institutes - the Legal Reserve and Permanent Preservation Areas in Rural Properties; as well as the impacts against establishing the Law 12.651/12 on the protection, conservation and preservation of natural resources. Concerns motivated the research on how the Regulations has dealt Legal Forest Reserve and Permanent Preservation Areas in rural properties and the Environment, as well as questions involving the impact of the Institutes of Legal Reserve and Permanent Preservation Area in Rural Properties especially small front of the property which provides the Environmental Conservation Law 12.651/12. To perform the work, we opted for the literature aiming to promote conceptual and theoretical study and documental research with the intent to verify what is presented in the literature by theorists and then advance the understanding and proposals that best embasaram the object of this research. The conclusion shows that the concern for forests and their degradation has always existed, as evidenced by the old laws. However, covenants and institutes established for the protection and preservation of the environment, were not always applicable or completed. It is noteworthy that the new Law on Protection of Native Vegetation enables the economic exploitation with the adoption of new strategies for environmental preservation, represented the payment for environmental services.
